Bobcat is a brand that sucks also. Takeuchi brand skid steers are not very fancy but do the job well and last. They are a little clunky also but they beat bobcat brand stuff any day.

@WalnutsandWineberries2 жыл бұрын
Hey Richard, just chiming in here on why I chose a Takeuchi. I like that they're not fancy. That's one of the reasons I picked it. It's not full of electrical Achilles heels (like Bobcat) if that makes sense. They seem simple to work on (metric) and have a very strong and durable Yanmar engine. It also feels nicely balanced. I tested out a Cat 257B and found it very tipsy compared to the Tak. Also, the Cat was rated to have more HP, but it didn't seem that way to me. My TL130 has 67hp and felt much stronger than the Cat. It's not the most comfortable ride, but I'd trade performance over operator comfort any day. I could go on and on - I have about 25 hours on the machine now and it's performing nicely and better than expected. The guy that sold it to me said it takes a unique person to like a Takeuchi, because of the sensitive controls and tank-like feel. Not for everyone, but I'm happy with the purchase.

Couple things... first, as it's been said the skid steer should be Bobby. Aka Ricky Bobby. Then you could name the trommel Shake... then you'll just have to come up with a bake. Go with the theme! Second.... grease! I know you have some dewalt battery powered tools. Get the battery powered grease gun. I got one a while back and after the initial sticker shock I have not regretted it in the least. And when it comes time to replace the tracks you will be glad you have it. You're going to go through about 2 full size tubes of grease between track replacement and greasing your equipment. Which I will also highly recommend doing because I heard Ricky's backhoe groaning at one point. From an old timer I learned construction equipment from... "if it groans... its dry. It needs to be lubricated just like me to work peoperly." He was a drunk but he wasn't wrong on the grease. Make sure to check your track tension as well. When we would tension them we would make sure the track was off the ground and then we would grease it until you had about 1 to 2 inches of droop under the equipment. Basically only half a tooth from the inside of the track. Hope some of this helps. Good luck on muscling the new tracks on. And dont be scared to use the backhoe to help. Your back will thank me later.

Not far from you right now. We're at Cumberland Gap waiting for the winter storm to hit! I know Ricky was feeling down last week after seeing a replacement come in. Ricky may not have the muscle but he sure has the skills! You might want to invest in the dewalt grease gun. It works very well just pumps in the grease. Thanks for the lessons on Dexpan. We're getting ready to do that on our property. What bit did you get, or should we get? Can a regular hammer drill work?
@WalnutsandWineberries2 жыл бұрын
Hey Bryce - people can say what they want about Harbor Freight, but that Bauer hammer drill is awesome. So is the jackhammer for that matter. This is the hammer drill I use: www.harborfreight.com/power-tools/drills-drivers/hammer-drills/73-amp-1-in-sds-plus-type-variable-speed-rotary-hammer-63443.html They also have a 10-amp model for not much more, and both take SDS plus. I get their 16 in. bits too. Honestly, I only buy them for the single 1-inch bit, but it's still a better deal than buying a single bit at Lowe's. www.harborfreight.com/16-in-sds-masonry-bit-set-5-pc-62794.html They last quite a while. Probably 30 holes each, 16 inches deep.

Never used it, BUT, Dexpan will move the rock further in all directions if it is filling a larger hole. 1-1/2” might be enough to split the rock across two dimensions instead of one - leaving Ricky-sized bites. I watch you guys for a myriad of reasons... one good reason is Meg is very attractive young woman with great skill sets that ...well I am a old mechanic, 72 and pushing that number up as we go through this year like a racehorse. Meg is the kind of woman who is so damn real an not easily offended if your language takes a twist as "you masterbated" the rock apart in my way of interpretation of John getting red in his face as he realizes the connotation it circles. I laughed to as I holler at the screen what I think he is trying to come out with. See its only vulgar if your mind is in the dumpster,... most of us guy minds are. Speaking to the choir on one thing very important to me is to keeping the track frames cleaned out so you can see any cracks or missing bolts when you work equipment hard. You should work it hard so you don't have to ... I see a grain to that shale like as splitting wood and if you can find these useful to enlarge those to wedge them apart. I am blind in my right eye because of a piece of metal flying off the head of the wedge we were using to split wood. It formed for a little bit as a piece of metal rounded on top and then flew off when hit with the hammer. It also got the optic nerve so it lays in a corner on my face and makes me look a mite weird. Please try to wear safety glasses as it will slow it down but not stop that piece if it flies hard enough. Have fun and remember that as long as its fun, its not really work. John, I won't blame you for being mad at me but buddy, you scored a keeper...... around here a "keeper" is described as a keeper is just that cause I don't want her. You just got to get lucky once in a while I was going to stop and then thought of this; When putting a track on, try to get in front of the machine with that backhoe and use a chain around the track and with hoe arm guide it as you turn it with the skid steer. It should help to guide it on quicker... no perfect way/LOL

Is the tractor seat difficult to turn around? Running the backhoe that way looks uncomfortable. When I don’t want to turn my seat around for quick tasks I still stand over the controls and face the backhoe. Just curious!
@WalnutsandWineberries2 жыл бұрын
Hi Andrew! Yes, it is very difficult (especially for me, Jon can do it a bit easier) the seat has to be lifted partially and spun. Sounds easy, but it is heavy and usually gets stuck when spinning. When I try to do it, I usually have to ask Jon to get it into place for me the rest of the way. It is a major downfall of the backhoe in my opinion. The RK25 backhoe has a second seat, but I would not prefer that because a lot of times we use the bh for a quick thing then need to reposition anyway. Thanks for watching! - Meg
