The very first yurt we stayed out was Rocky Ridge, around 8 years ago. Since then it has become nearly impossible to reserve any of the IC system yurts so we have had to find alternative yurt reservation sites. We aren’t skiers so discovering snowshoeing and being able to stay at yurts during the winter has made the season way for enjoyable. These IC system yurts are in absolutely incredible places so hope to return to one some day. I believe Elkhorn is a no dogs allowed yurt which is a bummer but understandable.

Quite nice! A step up from sleeping on the ground. Can I get a little meat with my butter? That was a boat load of butter!
@JonConti4 жыл бұрын
Lol that was way too much butter 😂 I had thrown a whole stick in the bag with the meat just kind of lazy. And I didn’t want to pack it out so I was used the whole thing. It was more science experiment than cooking technique 😀

I am happy to see that the Yurts survived the fire. I stayed at the Banner Ridge Yurt (next door) many years back and it was amazing.
@JonConti4 жыл бұрын
Yep the yurts are still there and so are remnants of the fire. We couldn’t see banner yurt, but we heard the chopping of wood as we passed. Did you snowshoe the rest of Elkhorn loop back to the parking lot or did you go back along the ridge when you left?

@@JonConti I remember taking the direct route back and not venturing out much. There was a nice hill for sledding and did some moonlight sledding. This was before I got into backpacking and brought everything by sled. The next time, my gear will be more simple and will be on my back.

We are too! We did lose one yurt (Whispering Pines) to the Pioneer Fire, but it has since been rebuilt and the Hennessey Yurt is now available for rent!

@@JonConti I’m in Calaveras county in Northern California, had to move back here from Boise to take care of a family member. I’ll be back in Idaho soon though I hope. I love it out by Cascade/Warm Lake, Idaho is heaven on earth! Thanks for your videos they allow me to look back on better times.

Thanks for the video. We are heading up next weekend and I was wondering how long the 3.5 mile snowshoe took.

Idaho is one of the most beautiful states in my opinion. A very overlooked vacation destination.

How far was the hike in??? Looks AMAZING! We are in Coeur d’Alene so would need to factor in a drive down with maybe an overnight first then hike in for a night or 2.... your thoughts or suggestions Jon? THANK YOU!!!!

Chad, Brett and I are gonna be in north Idaho for 2 weeks in January. Hopefully we find a yurt or two up there 😀 it was a 3 1/2 mile hike to this one. But they’re all different distances. I would drive down to The Springs when it reopens in idaho city and spend a night there at Inn the Pines. Then the next morning get up and go do a yurt. Probably do two nights. One night was quick. But these things book way in advance so you have to get on it or find a cancellation.

Awesome - THANKS! I’m sure there are some yurts up here to explore too. Hope you guys find them and post your magic for all of us followers! Big snow predicted in January... CHEERS & Happy Holidays!

The shot of the stars was my favorite! It really makes you remember how we essentially are just living life on a floating rock in space Lol. It’s so nice seeing a couple enjoy these type of remote adventures. Very inspiring, thank you Jon!
