NSBM is underrated for obvious reasons. Satanic Warmaster, Goatmoon, Grand Belial's Key, Nokturnal Mortum, Graveland, Absurd, etc. all have some incredibly good albums. Anyone denying that is simply either extremely biased or they're a liar.

Whether you like it or not, NSBM is more in touch with the spirit of black metal than any other BM subgenre. The Norwegian scene started as a 'fuck you' to the Christian society where those guys came from. Well, now hating on Christianity is cool. NSBM is the 'fuck you' that will NEVER be socially acceptable in this society.
@HonkeyKongLive
@HonkeyKongLive Жыл бұрын
Disagree. It was never about "fuck you" to what's cool,. it was because the Christian powers were literally forcing their culture into their country and supplanting the Norse gods. It was about fighting back against an oppressive power. Supporting oppression is antithetical to it. Though I admit there are a handful of NSBM bands I rock with.

wokism or the open society or scientism whatever you want to call it operates just like a religion. its a religion for atheists and modern people completely out of touch with their roots, blood and soil. it has a creation myth: big bang it has the great evil: intolerance and it proselytizes and attempts conversion it has heresies and it casts out unbelievers. it has priests who write and decypher texts for its adherents. it even has an end time prophecy (global warming) it operates as a faith. there is no amount of data and evidence you can show someone who is a true believer that will change their mind. therefore it deserves to be treated just like christianity or judaism or islam.

Majority of those early Norwegian bands were also NSBM (though they'll deny it up and down because of how much they stand to lose financially)... Several stamped their releases with Norsk Arisk Black Metal...The posers that have infiltrated black metal and started campaigns to cancel bands with their commie antifa shit have no place in the scene. "Black Metal is a crime against humanity..." Fuck all these whiny posers that need safe spaces.

Around the 4.50 mark you talked about a quote from ‘94, “we don’t like blacks…” which you attributed to ‘HellHammer’s Drummer.’ The band HellHammer, aside from not being a BM band broke up in ‘84. I believe that quote was from the Mayhem drummer who goes by the name HellHammer. Not being a prick just trying not to have some horrible quote attributed to the wrong person

TOUGH fucking topic. I push back against calling Burzum or DsO and those type bands to be NSBM because the *music* isn't promoting the ideology, but it's still hard to support them because you know where your money is going. Black metal in general is also heavily about being abrasive, being unacceptable, being unsavory. Like you said, there's a spectrum and (at least for me) I put a line when it gets into that weirdly militant and "heil Hitler" wing of things. There are bands like Graveland, old Hate Forest, Grand Belial's Key, that absolutely push that hateful image but it feels more couched in a general misanthropy and anger than trying to recruit into some dumbass organization throwing Nazi salutes around. Black metal isn't about joining an army, it's individualistic. I could keep going because I dove DEEP into this scene a few years back out of morbid curiosity so the only thing I'll say is that there's a band called Ohtar that pretty much scrapped their NSBM past and their most recent album is amazing.

Yes because human extinction is preferable alternative to thriving healthy nation of alike minded people... I also bet that 99% of so called nazi black metal is tongue in cheek, almost joke-ish music, I don't like full on propaganda music period, but ideas should stand free and accessable, then we would see what the world really wants...

too bad you arent in control. burzum is censored away with the rest of nsbm and if he did a show tommorow there would be the biggest protest ever trying to stop it (all by people who are in bands who plagiarized his songs and secretely listen to him like a priest hiding his pornography) why are people such cowards if you like burzum just say so. you don't need to justify it. pretending burzum isn't about european heritage and european paganism is retarded since the man himself will tell you otherwise if he wasn't banned from the internet. yes bands need money to survive and some will say "we've changed guys" while playing the same music so cowards will now give them money. attack the double standard that allows all other races to do the same thing nsbm does. would a rap band glorifying black nationalism and black supremacy be banned? no white morons would line up to buy it.

While I generally agree with the notion of 'separating the art from the artist' in the case of NSBM and other similar musical genres this is simply impossible. The only differences between NSBM and other BM are the lyrics and imagery. If there were other differences like in the music itself, production, etc, than there would have been something to talk about. However without them what makes NSBM NSBM *are* the artists, who put their personal beliefs front and center in their art, so it's impossible to separate them. Now, that's not to say that everyone who listens to NSBM automatically subscribes to this ideology, far from it. The way I see it there are 2 camps in NSBM fans. The first camp are those that are truly enthralled by the ideology. The second camp are those that are just enjoying the lyrics for what they are, another form of extreme darkness, not all that different from extreme violence and gore like say Cannibal Corpse or the even more extreme bands that followed them, goregrind and all that. There's a lot to say about the NS ideology itself, and the people who subscribe to it, most of whom don't even know what NS actually stands for. Most of them only know what they heard from *insert random, often nefarious source here* who may or may not have been representing the actual NS ideology truthfully, regardless of what we think of the actual ideology itself. The issue is that regardless of whether a NS subscriber actually understands what NS stood for or not, said person does have an understanding of what s/he thinks it does based on whichever source introduced him/her to the NS movement initially. This thinking, even if not what NS was originally, does reflect what NS has become in modern times. A black hole of unending hatred towards anyone and everyone, often including themselves, born out of nothing but utter ignorance. You're giving them way too much credit Imho by talking about their pagan roots, connection to the land, ancestors, etc. These people do exist mind you, but they're a separate group than the NS crowd. There obviously is some overlap between the 2 groups but they are 2 different groups with 2 different, arguably parallel, ideologies. Paganism on its own doesn't necessitate blind hatred towards everyone that isn't you or the group you belong to. It's just that people can subscribe to multiple different ideologies, especially when they're dealing with different issues, on different planes(mathematical term). Back to NSBM, there is no issue with the people who just enjoy it for the music, or even for the lyrics, as long as they don't act upon them. After all a lot of people have all sorts of whacky fantasies, which can include vulgar crimes like rapes, murders, etc. These fantasies, while far from ideal obviously, are not dangerous in and of themselves. It's only when the person having these fantasies becomes unstable enough to actually act upon these fantasies that s/he becomes dangerous. It's only those very specific NS communities that use NSBM as a recruitment tool for their cult(in essence) that are the truly dangerous ones. Now, these communities will exist with or without NSBM, so the only actual risk here is people who were otherwise not at all interested in NS who became fascinated by it because of the music and got dragged deep into that rabbit hole to the point where they're now very much a part of it and can no longer escape it(whether they actual want to or not). Likewise I wholeheartedly agree with you on the free speech aspect of it all. I strongly disagree with this ideology but like you I don't think censorship is the answer. In fact I agree with you that censorship only made it worst and is one of the reasons the NS movement has grown so vast in the entire western world. If society wasn't so utterly terrified of dealing with the NS crowd and instead chose the easy way of simply censoring them, out of sight out of mind and all that, than we wouldn't have had this massive problem we have today. Our only point of contention in this regard is in the whole 'educating them' aspect, as many of the disciples of NSBM are well past this point. It may have been possible, decades ago, but the train has already left the station a long time ago and isn't coming back. At this point the only solution is to deal with the leaders of these groups, on a criminal level, and keep close watch on their disciples so that whenever they merely begin to plan an actual violent action against anyone they will immediately be on the police radar and in turn be caught and prosecuted before they can put their plans into action.

well i secretly listen with my headphones some NSBM, from my personal experience when i walk outside in some roads closer to the trees and nature opened camps NSBM connects me to this fantasy world of whats been the past and hows been like, makes me believe that ancient humans was primitive and pure, strong, had trafitional farms and windmill's a beautiful woman working in gardening, childrens playing in the camp, a man that was both a handyman and a hunter gathered, 100% traditionalism, a world of prosperity, peace, a time of no immigrants, no politics, no Christianity, no industrialism, no businesses, no money 100% as nature was intended for humans to live NSBM for me is philosophy, some of them of course have this militaristic, anti-semitism stuff, but i prefer the NSBM/folk paganism ones such an underrated and beautiful subgenre that its understandable why is hated

@@WinzigKoch When people dismiss DsO as fascists its because of mikko aspa who is a nazi not because any of the albums. The problem is not "leftists" (i am one), frankly i think its valid to criticize a band that makes an anti-authoritarian album for collaborating with a nazi. Also, and i say the following as someone who isnt a communist: you might think you know what communism is but you don't, Stalin's regime was fascist and was not communist even if Stalin called himself communist he wasnt, communism is not authoritarian, communism is in opposition to authoritarianism, seeking to get rid of the state and classes. Stalin called himself communist but nothing he did had anything to do with communism (there was still a state, classes, money, private property, etc.) it was at most state capitalism (economy controled by the government). Decades of both the USSR claiming to be communist and American propaganda made to demonize communism has left most people with a completely wrong idea of what its supposed to be. If you don't want to remain ignorant, go actually read the communist manifesto, it's only 60 pages or so.

Though he is a Finnish nationalist and an antisemite, but I don't think he wants a police state breathing down his neck so I wouldn't call him a nazi. He is dodgy though. No, communism is totalitarianism. Saying it is "not real communism" means you think if you were in Stalins position you could have ushered in the utopia instead of hell on earth. I read the communist manifesto, it sucks. Though I could easily finish it, when Das Kapital is impossible to finish. You should read Animal Farm, 1984 and the Gulag Archipelago.

@@WinzigKoch As i write this i wonder if there is even any point in conversing with you, you dont seem the type to actually listen and think but nonetheless ill try to reason with you: "Aspa isnt a nazi" - Aspa owns the record store Sarvilevyt, where he also sells Nazi literature and music. He also runs his label Northern Heritage Records from there. His Band Vapaudenristi uses swastikas on merch and album artworks and is active until today. On 7th October 2016, Vapaudenristi played a support gig for Jesse Eppu Torniainen, a member of the Nazi organization Nordic Resistance Movement (in Finland: Pohjoismainen Vastarintaliike), who was convicted for killing a bystander during one of the NRM rallies who was protesting their rally. Vapaudenristi's lyrics are packed with Nazi codes and language. Aspa also appeared live as a drummer for the NSBM band Goatmoon and the RAC band Pagan Skull. In several interviews, Aspa articulates a positive attitude towards white supremacy, racism in general and nazi ideology Aspa is a nazi, there is no debate. "No, communism is totalitarianism." - Then tell me what communism espouses. If you've actually read the communist manifesto you'd know it is in opposition to totalitarianism. Its also a manifesto its not about "sucking" or being "good" it just declares ideas, it could only "suck" if it expressed its ideas poorly which it doesnt. Animal Farm - Written by a socialist in critique of stalin's rule specifically not against communism as a belief (Yes george orwell by his own word was a socialist as his work ‘Why I Write’ reads like this: “Every line of serious work that I have written since 1936 has been written, directly or indirectly, against totalitarianism and for democratic Socialism, as I understand it” 1984 - same thing except its more scifi future dystopia critique of nazi rule Gulag Archipelago - again about stalin/soviet union not about communism really but even then i thoroughly dislike it. All you people can say is talk shit about the soviet union and stalin as if a man who called himself communist gets to dictate what the word communism means and not the man who created it whom he never met and lived in another continent. If you had any sort of knowledge of history or politics beyond the drivel of twitter, the dumbed down version of high school or the twisted version of cable news you could actually say something about communism and about marx etc instead of just saying "but stalin... but soviet union..." Stalin did not even try to establish a communist russia his very position as a party leader is contradictory to any communist ideal. What you believe about communism is paradoxical and nonsensical.

Deathspell Omega are not NSBM, Mikko Aspa may identify with that label however the band itself has nothing to do with politics. The people who decried their 2019 album the Furnaces of Palinganesia clearly never read the lyrics which instead examined the failings of political and societal revolutions across the political spectrum. None of their earlier material has anything to do with politics either.

I'm someone who falls into the third category. I've recently started getting into the 'genre'. I don't really consider it as a different genre, because it sounds basically the same as your regular BM, except with nazi themes/lyrics/imagery. I definitely do not consider myself a nazi. Fuck that shit. But I still listen to it. Honestly don't care about the lyrics and such. Bands like Burzum are often seen as nazi, but I think that's untrue. In the case of Burzum, the music is just about Mythology/Paganism and anti Christianity/religion. Yeah Varg has some extremist views, but still I don't consider him a (real)nazi. Also, since pretty much all legit nsbm bands are not on platforms such as Spotify, Bandcamp, KZbin or whatever, getting & and finding the music is a bit more time consuming. So my money wouldn't go to the bands. Doubt I would ever actually buy music from legit nsbm bands, even if I could.

Another great video. Not telling you anything that you don't already know, but the founders of the Norwegian Black Metal scene were teenagers, and teenager's brains "aren't fully cooked yet" to quote my wife (a former high school teacher). It's been interesting to see some of the early scene members as they've gotten older and what they have to say now about that time. I actively don't listen to NSBM bands (one band I supported after the invasion of Ukraine is Drudkh, and I found out later that they've been accused of being NSBM; something the band denies...based on some of their songs, however, I don't know), & support the Antifascist Black Metal Network, both here on YT and on BC, as well other groups like Grime Stone Records and Black Metal Rainbows (both on BC). I don't mind someone being proud of their heritage or patriotic about their country, but when they use it as a weapon to actively harm someone else, then I'm done with them.

Oh no, absolutely. That's one reason I wanted to highlight how broken these individuals were. When you're that age, you really want something to latch onto and really lend your philosophy to. And when you're young and full of that angst and have that predisposition, it's not surprising that it led down that rabbit hole..

Punk had this same plague as well. Difference here is, a lot of modern black metal is super creative, mixing strange genres into it. Not worth it for me to even consider nsbm asubgenre of black metal. Its not like it has a distinct sounds anyways. Too many black metal fans either latching too hard to the old bm, or are so radically anti-pc to he point its their whole personality. I just like the sounds. Its easy enough to avoid nsbm.

Back in the early 90's hardcore NS people really didn't get togheter with BM or metal heads. They was seen as wierd and satanic things was seen as something that derrived from Judanism by the more devoted ones. I cannot really understand how the connection between BM and NS appeared as it clearly wasn't there in the 90's. At least not what I remember. But then again it was a totally different mindset back then people had totally different opinions but they still talked to each other. Ultra nationalistic music and BM was extremly common in countryside schools when I grow up in the early 90's sweden. So I guess it was just a question of time till they mixed. However, I read various works from Nietzsche, and I can say he was anything but a Nazi, nor his thoughts were in that direction (he was rather an anarchist), and I don't like the fact that he is associated to that movement in mass culture. I personally agree with Vattimo's interpetation: the "Ubermensch" wasn't a man above other men, with the aim to control them, but a man beyond other men, i.e. he goes beyond the traditional values and beliefs. And I am one of those people that can Separate the art from the artist. I think it’s fine to listen to NSBM…. The former three started out as NSBM but haven’t included that ideology in their music in a long time. Graveland on the other hand I don’t think ever was, just that Rob Darken is a controversial individual but that doesn’t often show in the music.

@@wheelsofmercuryI do like the early material of Graveland but I agree that the drumming was the weakest aspect of it. The riffs though have always been great. I know they’re melodeath; but since they are the death metal counterpart to Grand Belial’s Key, they still somewhat count. Arghoslent have confirmed that their new album will come out this fall. I’ve always loved their Dismember meets Running Wild style of melodic death metal, but because of the lyrics I don’t listen to them that often. I gravitate more towards Intestine Baalism, Ares Kingdom, and Dungeon Serpent when it comes to melodeath that is mostly death metal with melody.

You do realize that most black people, in the world mind you not just the US, are actually Muslim rather than Christian, right...? I mean I guess not since you clearly subscribe to an ideology rooted in ignorance. I also wonder what you consider as being 'Christian' considering that there are many different sects of Christianity and many different levels of devotion. Some Christians are so secular in their views they don't actually worship god at all, but merely acknowledge his existence as a default. As in something had to jump start the universe, might as well call it god, without attributing anything else onto him. Other Christians are so fanatical they still subscribe to the old adage of the crusades of old: convert or die. What I'm trying to say is that labeling someone as a 'Christian' doesn't actually say anything about said person, so you have to be a lot more specific in what exactly you hate about them, and thus focus your hatred onto certain sub-groups within the Christian category.

Haha, it's very impartial in the sense of just trying to go over the signs, philosophy and history! Tried to keep my own opinions out of it as much as possible, but let it be known that I am very anti-NSBM, personally. I do listen to things that could fall under that label but I don't personally go out of my way to support bands/labels that fall under that umbrella unless for research purposes. At the end of the day it's up to the person if they support or not and it's no skin off my back. I don't really mind.

@@TheMetalTempestYT its not bad but you are less impartial than you think. its like you are objectively describing a turd sitting in the corner.

as if corpsepaint and satan isnt larp. from my experience nsbm peeps are less larpy than the devil crew. most of them are politically active. do you believe darkthrone worship in the forest or a satanic church?

Deathspell Omega are not NSBM, Mikko Aspa may identify with that label however the band itself has nothing to do with politics. The people who decried their 2019 album the Furnaces of Palinganesia clearly never read the lyrics which instead examined the failings of political and societal revolutions across the political spectrum. None of their earlier material has anything to do with politics either.
