And as I watch this episode of you life afloat, it's absolutely bucketing down here on the South Coast of England. The BBC has issued a Yellow Warning of Heavy Rain and Flooding until mid-day tomorrow. So far, it's been a cold and wet July. It's not been this bad in July since 2004, with more to come. With a bit of luck, we MIGHT get a summer this year, but as the Schools are now shutting for the Summer Holidays, we're not holding our breaths. Hey Ho! Russ, in Not so Sunny Hampshire.

If you half set your mizen sail, it will help to stop the side to side roll. It must be tight like a tarp, rather than sail shaped. Older cruisers used to have a flat sail specifically for this. Great videos, thank you 🙃

Look into how to set up a swell bridle instead of a stern anchor. Similar to a snubber, attach a line to the anchor chain with a rolling hitch or spliced loop and clip, let out a couple of boat lengths of line a and secure midship on the side away from the swell. Haul it in until your bow points into the swell. The advantage, unlike a stern anchor, is that it can be adjusted from onboard as the wind changes and it’s as easy as a snubber to retrieve. Nice video, thanks.

Have you repaired the tear in that one compartment of the dingy already? If not, here's how I would approach that. This starts with the question what material is around the air-inflated compartment. That determines what glue you need and what repair material will match. In bicycling, there is a century old glue that helps repair a puncture in your bike's inner tire. You would use a patch of inner tube material with similar material properties and elasticity to glue over the hole. That works flawlessly and reliably. But the inner tube is restricted by the outer tire and that means there is a limitation to the load exerted by air pressure - the inner tube gets help from the outer and this helps the patch to stay in place. As soon as motorcycles and cars started to use "tubeless" tires, that changed the procedure. In the case of the dingy, I would to glue a patch to the inside, considering the size of the tear, and the outside. I would glue a patch to the inside starting along one side (length) of the tear once this is really fixed in place I would glue it along the other end - here the function is to get strength to hold the sides together, not necessarily perfect air-tightness. Working this way would/could enable some clamping while the glue sets. Next I would put air pressure in the zone and glue a patch on the outside. Make the patches oval in order to prevent sharp corners of the patch to easily work loose. "Clamp" using gaffer tape or so.
@TeuluTribe

You were adventurous to start this and now you're both so brave, strong and resourceful! I've learnt so much about what's required to run a boat from you and will begin next year. It's been many years for me (last aboard a Nautilus Swan 57 ketch, beautiful boat, years ago, and always had this desire to get afloat again). I've travelled lots too and of all the amazing places visited, I can't help thinking that beautiful Wales is up there among the most scenic. Maybe not the warmest weather, but when the sun shines hot it's beaches and scenery are up there with the world's best. I look forward to your excellent videos and long may you both have great adventures, and much good fortune! Stay safe.

I have a question, why don't modern sailors use hammocks? Hundreds of years ago sailors used hammocks, and when you have a boat rolling then it just looks like it would make sense to set up the hammock above your bed, so you can sleep stationary whilst everything else in your boat is rolling around side to side.
@TeuluTribe
@TeuluTribe Ай бұрын
Good question- easy answer for us! We don't have the 'real estate' on board. Above our bed is angular and pretty tight, and the only other place we could hang a hammock is in the saloon or galley but if we rolled, we would be sure to crash into things- maybe Teulu looks a bit bigger on camera then she really is 😊
