I believe it's more an unfortunate in-joke that the context is lost on? I thought the same until I found out the role of the prince was designed as a walk-on cameo for people not actually in the show- including friends, dogs, and kickstarter backers. They'd get the hat and sash and get pushed out the door and Joey would let them say a speech of their own creation and move them around the stage then push them back off the stage. For filming, Corey did the role himself, tried just to be visually weird so he didn't have to say anything, and was more just sort of pretending to be clueless and awkward about his own blocking like the prince actors would normally be but that isn't clear at all in the end result.

I honestly don't know if I'll be able to watch this show again, even though there are parts of it that I really enjoy, because just thinking about this scene makes me feel so anxious and gross. The fact that so many of the comments are laughing at the joke and I have hardly seen anyone look at it criticality doesn't help either.

@@kmlamb85 I appreciate the context, but "We Love the Prince!" and his whole setup are pretty bad even without Corey's specific portrayal. "He belongs in a mental asylum" and "he has the brain of a child" are explicitly ableist things to say about a person. The fact that it's a walk-on role without any character development or progression makes it worst, honestly. There are other Starkid characters (I haven't seen all of TCB) who have ableist traits, but the prince's entire characterization is "he's stupid and everyone hates him" and then he dies, whether or not the person playing him does raptor hands. And that's the joke people seem to be laughing at.
