A fantastic finish! Thanks for sharing and thanks Cindi for suggesting the option for those of us who hook with yarn!

Be sure to try it the first time on a test piece. A small coaster is a great way to try it out. You can learn all the finishes inside The Basics course which is part of the The Rug Hooking Journey: howtorughook.com/trhj

Let me know how it works for you. I introduced this a while back on a live show and the people who have tried it, loved it.

Great method. I have nerve damage and by the time I finish hooking, I dread the finishing. I hook with both yarn and wool strips so this is great for both.

Be gentle on yourself. Do the work in small bursts rather than marathoning it. One way is to whip only during commercials when you are watching TV. You will be amazed by how much you can get done and it should be kinder to your hands.

@@rughooking I tend to not watch TV (I know, I'm odd), but I do have to give my hands a break frequently.

Thank you Jessica and Cindi, this was so helpfull, I'm planning my first large rug (aprox 3ft x 6ft) this will also be my first whipped edge. I will be revisiting the colour planning course also 😉💜

If you use this finish or any finish that you have not done before, be sure to practice first. Hook a small mat, 4"x4" or 6" x6" and do the finish on this small piece first. NEVER try a new finish on a rug that took you weeks, months or years to hook without doing a practice piece.

Cindi…is this somewhat of a version of the Doris Easton finish?
@rughooking
@rughooking 2 жыл бұрын
More of a modification of the Fold Forward Finish. cindigayriughooking.com/ff It is the same in that it uses a row of hooking to bulk up the edge --to prevent a hard crease, but the edge is folded forward. @jessmakesit developed it to be kind to sore hands. It is easier to whip the corners by stitching through a row of hooking and two layers of rug warp instead of many layers of just rug warp.

Is this similar to Doris Eaton's finishing?
@rughooking
@rughooking 3 жыл бұрын
I think it is quite different. The only similarity is that loops are used to support the edge instead of cording. ✅No rug tape. In the Stuffed Forward Finish, you do not need rug tape. (Find out here why I do not like rug tape: kzbin.info/www/bejne/kKureGSMf9-npNk). ✅You fold the backing forward instead of back. I think this helps to make the rug edge lay flatter. ✅The wool you use to support the strips can be any color in the Stuffed Forward Finish because front and back are completely covered. You still want to be sure you get very close on Doris' finish. ✅The rug tape shows on the front of the rug. It is extremely difficult to find rug tape that will match with your rug. On the Stuffed Forward Finish you have to whip with yarn or wool strips. It is extra work, but you don't have to compromise on the color. ✅There is still two more steps that they do not show on the Doris Eaton tutorial: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sIOQlpWNfq-Xlbs 1. Sew the backing to the rug. 2. Sew the rug tape to the rug. Don't skip step 1. If the backing is left loose it could cause friction. The edge of your rug is going to be the first to wear out. ✅Wool yarn or wool strips will wear MUCH better than cotton rug tape.
