Tim you probably will never see this but I want to write this anyway. I have NO experience as a commercial mariner....I DID get my "6-pack" license in 1984 and owned boats for 35 years. I love your channel. I grew up on the Elizabeth,NJ and Carteret,NJ waterfronts . I worked on the docks and worked with gasoline barges. I just want to thank you for a great channel. Tim I paused at 4.00 because you carefully explained why more professional mariners do not post. I am extremely grateful for you and more grateful for your employer who allows you to present a line of work I have always been fascinated by. Happy New Year.

His employer? I assumed he owned the boat…?
@henrymp62952 жыл бұрын
@@GrifFungin No sir, he works for a company that tolerates his postings. The gist of the message Tim is asking is for viewers to respect the anonymity of his employer so he can continue to offer his productions. If I owned a towboat company, Tim would be a first choice to captain any boats in the fleet. If I had a need of a towboat, Tim's employer would be my first choice because of the tolerance. You can search KZbin and will not find these types of videos anywhere but here. Several creators have tried, but Tim posts on a regular basis. If you want to see another pro who has latitude with their employer, check out TheCrewChef, who is the executive chef on a charter yacht. Warning, you will be in the galley and not on the helm.😀 However, she is a cutie. 👍 (Sorry Tim).

Frequent watcher, first time commenter here. Tim, I just wanted to take a second to say how much I appreciate you and your work on this channel. I have a small (to you) 35 foot twin engine vessel I keep on Lake Michigan. I have found the way you talk through your thought processes as you are underway, give helpful tips on VHF etiquette, explain how little guys can stay out of the big guys way SO INCREDIBLY useful. Not to mention all of the tips you give on handling in tight quarters (without having to scream at any of your crew--which my wife has come to appreciate) as, really, although the stakes are bigger for you--the forces on the boat remain largely the same. Thank you for doing what you do. Keep it up and maybe we'll catch up to you out there somewhere. :)

Cavitation is a fascinating subject with serious physics behind it. I am a hydraulics engineer, and have seen valves and piping eroded away from the inside from the energy created by the tiny bubbles collapsing. There is another interesting phenomenon called “sono-luminescence” where when the bubbles collapse, they give off a purplish glow. Have some colleagues who ran an experiment showing this with a hydraulic circuit in a Lexan body and the glow is visible. I think they put the video on KZbin somewhere. They brag about creating their hydraulic lightbulb. Really enjoy everything you share with us. Happy Holidays

You were about 10 miles south of me, in Troy, NY, Rensselaer county. Jet fuel is probably destined for the local International Airport, just a few miles to the NW of the port of Rensselaer. Those power, lines seen ahead crossing the river, come from the power plant, on the West side of the river and feed the East Greenbush substation, on the East side and a mile or so from the river. This electrical substation is one of two electric feeds for the Hospital across the street from where I live. With this in mind I can see, on maps the turning basin you will use.

I worked as a musician aboard an RCCL ship Jewel of the Seas in 2005. When we docked at Georgetown, Bermuda, the captain had to navigate between two jetties and then turn around. Anyway, in the turnaround process the cap turned that boat 962 feet long between those jetties with no more than 50 feet clearance fore and aft. That was massively impressive. Guys holding laser rangefinders on the bow & stern. Ship had azipods, not regular propeller(s), and of course bow thrusters. I always wondered if the nav system had some kind of turn-in-place routine they could call up to spin the boat on a dime. They did this a lot, but never more dramatic than Bermuda. They never wanted to back out of a port on departure.

There is so much going on at the start and ends of your runs, and it is impressive that you can keep a handle on everything while providing commentary to the cameras. Multitasking at its best. I love hearing the details and reasons for the actions you make, and the forces of nature you are dealing with. You explained about using a buoy to gauge the tide, rather than relying on charts for instance, and got feedback from another skipper to hear what was happening closer to your destination. It paints a picture that makes it so much more interesting, and even educates those of us who take our considerably smaller boats on the water. Thanks for letting us know what to avoid in the comments. I'm looking forward to hearing about the new filming equipment you have coming.

Tim, maybe you should remind, or for the ones that don't realise , that your wheels are 8ft in diameter and at the tips is where the steam bubbles occure. CUOTO my friend.

Thank you for your videos. I find them educational and entertaining. And I like the longer ones (normal speed/real time). I also really appreciate the various camera angles that you give us. On your comment concerning occupations; I am blessed to have a job that I am good at (so I'm told) AND enjoy (driving a school bus for special needs kids). Have a great day!

Great video thanks Tim. Hope you had a good Christmas (albeit working) and all the best for the New Year. Re video length, I'd say you've historically got it about right. But if you want to fulfill other's wishes and make them longer then it is always possible for some to fast forward through the slower bits, as long as there isn't your chat during them which would be missed. Perhaps even say if there's going to be anything more exciting at the end and at what timestamp (might need to be a caption). Thanks again for your hard work. It's much appreciated here in the UK.

I would just leave the videos long format. That way if some want to watch the whole thing they can and others can just as easily fast forward if they don't. This way we get the best of both worlds. Merry Christmas and as always thank you for bringing us along.

Thanks for another great video, Tim! Whenever you're cavitating, strangely it always brings back fond memories of my wife and I at dinner onboard a cruise ship when the thrusters engage to shove us off the dock and the table is shaking and the wine in our glasses is making little circles. What could be more exciting, fine dining and getting underway at the same time! All the best to You for New Years and the coming year!

I love seeing "Boat life" with the view from the water. I grew up in St. Paul Minn area, and as a kid though it was neat to see all that water traffic as we zipped by it going to where we needed to go.... Love seeing what you do, and thank you for the company that lets you share this treat with us... Please just let your cam's run, as the longer the vid the more we get to see of the rive side...

I enjoy most of your videos of any sort. I don’t expect you to ring my bell with every one, and when you don’t half the time I’m just not in that mood at that moment. I feel both your channels are more than entertaining and informative enough and I look forward to whatever you care to share with us.

Docking, undocking, and traveling. Three elements without fail in your videos, which are great. Your dialogue is so engaging and informative but when you don't have anything to say it's not dead air. It's traveling. Always a pleasure and I look forward to these every week. Plus an added benefit: if you're filming you always have an alibi if you need it. LOL Danny will be missed for sure.

Hey from Tampa-St.Pete. It's right at 80 degrees, sunny and clear down here today....this video reminds me of WHY I retired to Florida!! As much as I like the N. East, I don't miss being cold. Thanks for taking us along! Tim, we'll watch whatever you post. It's all fascinating to me.
