My husband and I know this boat and her owner. We crewed from NC to Antigua, a couple of years ago, and I can say she has been well taken care of, and even in 15 to 20' seas sails very smooth. A gorgeous and true proper yacht, she would be worth purchasing for someone wanting cruising and or live aboard lifestyle.

OMG! This boat is like a "contemplating a Monet painting in the Louvre". What a gorgeous Ketch! I believe the asking price is fair at $540K. But, like you said maintenance and upkeep will be too much. Particularly for an older gentleman with a limited budget from a pension. I was an Engineman when I was in the US Navy. I worked with hydraulics several decades ago and I'm not afraid to work on it, but I'm not "a spring chicken anymore". Thank you for sharing this marvelous piece of art! Cheers!

A true classic from Ted Hood. It can be appreciated just by looking at her. Thanks for bringing this.

one of those few regrets. demoed ted hood's personal 62' w/ him at the helm in 1982 during the newport r.i. boat show. price was right incl trade but i got too busy and passed, not realizing how much time i was destined to spend sailing (20 plus on/off plus live aboard). learned much in the hour sail just watching hood at work. awesome boat, awesome sailor and designer. and this boat is worthy of his legend. wow.

Thank you so much for bringing this beautiful boat to our screens! My first thought, about 30 seconds in, was..." now THAT is a boat!" OK, too expensive for me...but if I had a million pounds I would buy her right now and devote my time to sailing her far and wide and keeping her in such good condition. A real treat...thank you!

I've been watching Karuna since she was listed a few monthes back. She is absolutely gorgeous and has the lines dreams are made of. Ted Hood's design and layout is the best there is, and everything from the rig, systems, woodwork are all top notch. She is priced to move and I'm sure she will have a lucky new owner soon. To whomever buys her, (congrats!) and be expecting VHF hail from me in about a decade to see if you're ready to sell her yet, seriously!!

I saw her go through Cape Cod cannel years ago. She was waiting clearance & tide ,coming in from the East end as I watched her sails furled in, turn then entered..So Majestic ~

Beatiful first rate boat. The hydraulics are needed. A boat of this size, with so many electrica features and demands, you'll need a very serious battery bank, and possibly be 48V throughout to run everything. You just have to keep the hyd leak free, and air free. Notice the absent of solar power (at least, I didn't see any). With that much fresh water, and a watermaker, this is not a marina boat. This boat is at home at anchor, like she is in the video. As you said, if you can affort this boat, you can definitely afford the upkeep.

What a beautiful boat, and exceptional value for money. To replace this boat today would be several million dollars, at 550 k she's a bargain, and will sell for considerably less I suspect

Although sailing has been a technology employed since antiquity, why dont we see more newer technologies such as those discussed in this documentary, kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y6eZqIerf6ughrs, on smaller boats to better our enjoyment of travel by boat? It could be not just greener but also safer, as well as attract more interest in boating.

Here we go again, another boat for millionaires. A 25 year old design with all the modern add ons. Everyone talks about the declining popularity of sailing.This is not how you promote sailing. Sailing even as an intermittent pastime takes effort, engagement and a fair bit of knowledge. There are a lot of dreamers, as evidenced by the comments, but to expand sailing you have to move dreamers into be being sailors. Sailing used to be more accessible, it still is and you guys tell us how most of the time. Tim Labute and John Stone are two content providers that on their own channels put out the idea " yes I could do that, and yes I want to do that". Things are changing in "sailing media" and finally you guys are moving with the change, don't get distracted by the big operators who only cater to the rich.

Why the debbie downer? This boat is a work of craftsmanship and design that likely cannot be replicated anymore. Comparing the Hood standard to the new boats is worth doing as there are used boats out there that are significantly better than new boats as far as value, style, performance and quality.
@jfarmer17112 ай бұрын
I don't know why but your screed strikes me of jealousy as much as anything. For the right person/couple, this boat at this price, is a steal. There is a place for boats of all sizes and prices, just as there is a place for all kinds of sailors. As for millionaires... This boat is cheaper than a comparable condo in most any market. I could see an early retiring couple in good health moving aboard, without being "millionaires".
@jackchamberlain59932 ай бұрын
@@jfarmer1711 for the five sailors in the world who would be seriously interested, I suppose it is useful, but for the rest of us, like a few other commenters, we would have to win the lottery.
