My favorite salmon (of the moment) is Aldi’s fresh vacuum sealed salmon… pan sautéed with a maple/mustard glaze!!! I make it at least once a week… the pieces are enough for two meals for me… sometimes 3… if I’ve been eating crappy I will eat just the fish without sides to get a lot of protein and high quality fats but normally I pair it with rice or something else and some veggies. I used to hate fish… now it’s a favorite food of mine 🤷♀️

Atlantic is the farmed. Pacific or Alaskan is the good wild caught sustainable stuff, it’s got more of the good omega 3s, more mineral content and less of the bad stuff that junks up the environment.

We are totally spoiled up here. It hurt to see that poor sockeye fillet cooked to dust. When I hear the word sockeye I always think of luscious nigiri sushi or mid-rare cooked fillet.

😂 Y’all are my opposites. I love homemade salmon burgers, canned red sockeye salmon croquettes with the skin and soft bones 😋, I don’t get form raised, and I LOVE me some rice. 😁 Canned salmon was cheap when I was a kid, and we ate croquettes frequently. Easy recipe using the red sockeye, about 7 crushed saltines, very finely minced onion, 1 large egg, salt and pepper. Fry on medium heat until browned, flip and repeat. Serve with ketchup. Delish. 😃 I adore y’all! 🫶🫰

Something I realized on one of your videos when someone said Gwyneed was giving them Wine Aunt vibes was that watching these videos makes me feel like I'm sitting around listening to my grandma, Mom, and Aunts talking about food. Like my RL family, which I guess you all are now unofficially a part of, either sisters or aunts or something (I think I'm closer to your ages so it would be more older and younger sisters). But I think that's honestly why I love your videos, so yeah tell us more about farrow salad, or whatever you guys want to talk about, I'm here for it!

At the risk of sounding like a creeper, I also consider all the faces of Mythical to be family to me. Definitely along the lines of sibs than parents or elders, lol. But still very homey, very honest and real, very comforting and kind. All good things in a family dynamic

SKINLESS PORTIONS SOUNDS LIKE THE NAME OF A ROCK BAND!
@philoctetes_wordsworth3 ай бұрын
Can we talk about the variations in color? Most people do not know this, but processing for farmed salmon usually involves dyeing the flesh a “salmon” color, because farmed salmon flesh is very white in comparison to wild caught. Creepy. 2:59 I feel like the very first one must have been far,ed, and perhaps people who do not like the flavor of salmon to buy farmed salmon.
@mpbx30033 ай бұрын
It's not really "dye" in the traditional sense. The variation comes from manipulating the feed of the salmon to replace what they get in the wild. It's kind of like how they manipulate egg yolks with feed. [Some farms use feed that's designed to be much closer to wild-type nutrition and some use feed that just boosts the color without the underlying nutrition.]

The sockeye is a species of salmon. In the PacNW we have four main salmon sold for food. The King, also called Chinook, is the highest in fat and richest in flavor (not just fishiest). The Sockeye is leaner and more red and yes, has a strongest flavor. It is magnificent as sushi and smoked salmon. It is also excellent as a fillet if you do NOT overcook it. I see yours was just dust on the plate. You want it mid-rare to no more than mid. The Coho is somewhere in between. Not as fishy as Sockeye, more fat, but not as fatty as King. So a good middle of the road salmon. The pink is hardly eaten up here as a fresh fillet. It is very mild, almost whitefish-like. I usually see it in cans. I would buy it to poach for salmon salad but that is about it. Atlantic salmon? Seems to be a different species. I am not sure I can even get it here in the PacNW. Wouldn't if I could. It is supposed to be very mild because it is always farmed for the market.

I grew up at Lake of the Ozarks and all the mild fish you could catch. So now I'm living on the Atlantic coast and I have tried for 20 years to find a salmon I like and nope. Too strong. So we saw some salmon at Sam's club and bought it and I seasoned with salt & pepper and Kinder's lemon butter seasoning. We grilled it and tada.....I officially like salmon! It's not frozen, it's a big plank, so you do have to portion it but they sell it skinless as well. I even ate the leftover piece on a salad the next day and it was delicious. So mild. Highly recommend.

Nice video girls! Personally I enjoy sockeye salmon. Though I grew up on eating a lot of wild caught fish and wild game, and now I’m raising my kids that way too. We eat a lot of the fish and waterfowl I get when the seasons are open.

For me the quality of the cook is what makes or breaks salmon. My favorite salmon is wild caught sockeye salmon but it isn't as good if you take it all the way to well done. At more like a medium rare though it is the best.

I was a snowbird in Haines, Alaska in 1999, and it absolutely ruined me for salmon, halibut, and dungeons crab. I am now trapped in houston, texas, and almost all of the seafood here travelled very, very far. Hence, I almost never eat seafood anymore. I do not trust anything that comes from the Gulf of Mexico. Red snapper is amazing, but real red snapper is hard to find, because it is pricey, and many restaurants here serve tilapia and call it snapper. texas is a dump. . Salmon is indeed a “fishy” fish, and freezing it makes it so much worse.

11:48 I used to get Marley Spoon, and they sent “bowls” a couple of times, nd they were crazy delicious. I ordered a breakfast bowl once, and I was sorry. Other than that, the odd Poke bowl. 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻💋💋 BTW: I really liked Marley Spoon; I stopped using them because health issues sometimes prevent my cooking the meals quickly enough, and the individual elements lose integrity. Wasting food actually causes me pain, so I had to choose to let that go.🤗🤗🤗
