Something many of us take for granted in the New World, also known as the Western Hemisphere, is the time it took in Europe, Africa and Asia.............. many, many centuries .............millenia really ............ for invention, development, business, industry, and education to reach its present level in the modern World. This video could have represented 200 years ago, and if you took away a few simple tools from the scene, it could have been 2000 years ago. People have persevered through weather and environmental challenges, natural calamities, famine, drought, disease, illness, accidents, war, crime, insurrections, raids, terrorism, ignorance, arrogance, insults, abuse, and community, family, personal challenges and difficulties and even strife, plus too many other things for me to think of right now to get the World and Society and Humanity to where it is today, but we often take that for granted. To me, this video represents all good people everywhere trying to overcome all that, in the symbolism of a simple ceremony on the edge of the freezing and dark Arctic representing hope, inspiration, and faith over the millenia.

I have always believed that no matter if you are religious, no matter what you believe in, the darkest nights of the year have always been a symbol and a metaphor for hope and the return of the light. Even though in this moment we can't see it, we know that from the darkest nights on days are growing longer again and will eventually bring us summer - no matter how long or dark they might be now. That is something I always try to remember in difficult times. Thank you so much for capturing this perfectly Jonna and for sharing it with us ❤️

Today we celebrate Santa Lucia in Sweden. It is a tradition of light. It is celebrated with a procession of girls in white gowns bearing candles, led by one who represents Lucia with a crown of candles on her head. It has always been one of my favorite holidays in the 20+ years that I have lived in Sweden.🙂
@Narnendil2 жыл бұрын
There are usually both men and women in the procession. And yes, it's also one of my favourite things to celebrate, it's so beautiful with the lights and the music!

This tradition reminds me of the Diwali festivities in India (which also celebrate the light that will come after the fall and winter with candles and offerings). How closely bound by nature we once were to observe her cycles and celebrate her many aspects. We need to get close again or we will lose ourselves in this artificial world!

I felt so connected singing along with your video in my own language (Dutch) ♥ We just had a tiny bit of snow, but I know I can count on you showing me more from your beautiful corner of the world. Oh Come Emmanuel (the song at the start of the video) was one of the songs we sang for my winter wedding a year ago - so hauntingly beautiful, it gave me chills to hear it overlaid over the "cathedral" of the forest in this video. Thank you for this beautiful moment of light in darkness 💛🌿

I grew up with an Aunt and some community who tried to keep our Swedish heritage alive in the melting pot of the US. Santa Lucia was a tradition we learned about and now I’m thinking I need to make sure it continues as a tradition in our family.

Your videos are always beautifully produced and your usage of Forndom in the particular one made me so happy when my wife and I watched it. I love hearing that unmistakable Scandinavian sound as the backdrop to your celebration of your homeland and cultural heritage. Never forget though that you yourself alongside your husband and Nanook are the light in the world when it seems the world is the most dark. Your spirits and kindness are brighter than any flame. Continue to create and build and add to the beauty of the world as you two have been doing. We who watch are privileged to experience it alongside you.
