I recommend Docker’s Alpha Khakis. They are a bit less formal than chinos so make an easy step from jeans. But the great thing is their sizes are true and come in single inch steps 30”, 31”, 32” rather than jumping from 30” to 32” - for instance I am 33” waist and 30” leg and the fit and drop is always perfect. They are reasonably priced and loads in the 2nd hand market. They also come in loads of colours. Worth a look.

Hi there, glad you enjoyed the video and you correct, in my opinion a pair of shoes look far better than the more casual of looks, but I'd rather see people wearing clean sneakers and a pair of decent jeans or chinos than I would see them in grabby trainers, jeans and a t-shirt or a hoody. Thanks for your continued support and comments and I agree with your sentiments 👍🙂

If I go out to town I find myself wearing chinos, corduroy, canvas pants nowadays over jeans. (Tried linen but not for me). I find them to feel better especially if there broken in enough. I suggest llbeans “lake wash” chinos they will feel comfortable from the start & the “comfort” chino they will break in faster. Their hidden comfort corduroy pants when available. You mention Brush twill & flannel but I also like chambray & Oxford cloth. I also like the button down collar don’t have to worry about collar bending. Jumpers/sweater is a good layer piece if your not wearing a jacket I feel weird in just a shirt & trousers without a layer piece like a jacket/sweater. Another great shoe I like to add is a dressier Chelsea boot, can dress it down or up like a tweed jacket.

Hi Chris, I like your new series. Great videos so far. I agree with you and the statement pieces or more loud patterns. It is not everybody. I know it is exactly not for me. I like patterns more in a subtitle way and do not like to be flamboyant. Drawing attention to myself is not in my nature. I like to dress well and sometimes I think, I actually do draw attention to myself because of dressing well. A real oxymoron in a way. I have never thought I would ever wear tweed. If you had told me 20 years ago I would wear it, I would have declared you insane. Nowadays, I really love it. I was even able to lay my hands on a real Keepers Tweed. As explanation for anybody who wants to know what that is: Keepers Tweed is a closely woven heavy duty cloth originally produced for Game Keepers. I have a jacket in green. It its incredible warm and seems indestructible.

Hi Kay, great to hear from you again and glad you're enjoying the series. I hope this gives people that are trying to beak away from jeans and t-shirts an alternative and I agree some choices or options might not go well with some individuals personal choices, but it is just opening them up to consider other options in the future even. It interesting that you raise the subject of tweed. I know a lot of people wouldn't consider it, but I think when you gain age and some degree of wisdom about it and realise how functional it really is, you question why you hadn't worn it much earlier. Tweed has become more popular over recent years mainly due to the wedding hire and wedding fashion promoters in magazines and fashion, heavily promoting the tradition wedding look and using tweed in the look. Tweed has become more main stream again and more popular generally. A keepers tweed tend to be more thorn proof and more tighter weaved than most tweed fabrics. A great choice is you can get it or afford it🙂👍

I am wearing shirts and chinos with shoes.. but i have latched onto jumpers a bit too much i think. They might now be preventimg me from progressing sartorially. It's a comfort zone i guess. Through winter it's s been easy, but here comes summer!
@TheBritishDapper7 ай бұрын
Your personal progress sound awesome, well done, Jumpers are a great addition to a persons wardrobe, and great in the winter months, I also wear a lot of jumpers in the winter months. In the next video I'm going to talk about how to move to the next level, more formal jackets, ties, formal dress shirts and suits. Something to consider is creating the opportunity to enable you to wear these things, a short break holiday elsewhere, a night at the theatre, date night with a partner (they will love it too). Thanks for your continued support 👍🙂

Hi Chris, another great informative video. Thank you for sharing. Your shoe collection is really great, my shoes are not that nice, I still need to work on that. I love the red and blue striped shirt. I'm not sure about an all-white shirt - without a blazer - on jeans, with the choker it's a bit better. But that's just my observation. Kind regards from Amsterdam.

Hi there, lovely to hear from you🙂 Glad you enjoyed the video, you'll get there with the shoes, it just takes a little rime. I understand what you mean about the white shirt and the use of a cravat is a great way of adding a little interest and a pop of colour to what could be a slightly boring look. How are you getting on with wearing a hat in Amsterdam now?

I should really start incorporating a button up shirt with a v-neck sweater. They always seem to bunch and not lay against the body comfortably.

Great video Sir. I want to try getting a camel hair sports coat(blazer) this year for winter & I was wondering if flannel wool trousers would be a good match, as they are kind of fuzzy and if in a similar color, might match the texture of the coat?
@TheBritishDapper7 ай бұрын
Hi Sean, glad you enjoyed the video. Flannel trousers are great for the winter months and they come in different weights in of cloth, but you difficulty would be, if you were intentionally trying to match the jacket and the trousers from to separate garments. They tend not to match close up, from a distance they might appear the same, but up close, the texture/weave of the fabrics will undoubtedly be different etc. I tend to go the other way and go for contrasting, items that are sold as separates are generally best kept as separates. the only way you might be able to match them up is to have the trousers made with the same weight of fabric from the same mill on the same run as used in the jacket to get a match and that tends to be very expensive to do. Let me know how you got on with your purchase. 👍🙂

First shirt is plaid gone wrong. I am a bengal stripe guy or small pattern or texture with jeans or chinos and no tie. Just putting on dress shoes elevates any look even a pair of jeans. Even faded light wash jeans can be up styled with a clean, polished brown dress boot rather than a sneaker. One pocket on OCBD is classic, but I try to avoid pockets on any other shirts as they look like work shirts and not dress shirts. Two pockets and you are looking like a cowboy or military surplus. I do like using my shirts with wool trousers as I am not sold yet, of haven't found the right fit, of chinos. I just love wool in general. If your white shirt shows the pink hue of your skin, it is too thin.
@TheBritishDapper7 ай бұрын
Hi there, Bengal striped shirts are very versatile, and using smaller patterns or textures when pairing with jeans or chinos is a good way forward. And I completely agree, dress shoes can instantly elevate any look, even with jeans. I personally prefer clean, polished brown dress boots and brogues over sneakers, and tend not to wear faded myself, but I agree that they also elevate faded light wash jeans. I agree that one pocket on an OBDC is a classic touch, but I also understand the concern about pockets on other shirts giving off a more casual vibe. Two pockets can sometimes veer into cowboy or military surplus territory, especially if the have epaulettes on them, so I tend to avoid them for a more polished look. I only used this one in the video as an example of how a person might move away from that jeans and T-Shirt, hoodie and trainers look that is so commonly seen these days, especially if if it not an age appropriate look. I share your preference for using shirts with wool trousers, especially when I haven't found the right fit of chinos yet. Wool just has a timeless elegance to it. You raise an interesting observation about the thickness of a white shirt. A good tip to pass on to others. Glad you enjoyed the video and that's for your continued support🙂
