2:46 That carb has three adjustments. 1: High speed needle. It's the first one you pointed out, the one where you connect the fuel line, the one you can adjust by just pinching and turning. Adjust this FIRST and with the engine UNDER LOAD. IE, do a wide open speed run, then make an adjustment based on what the engine's doing. SMALL TWEAKS; no more than 1/8th of a turn. 2: Low speed needle. This is the screw down inside the throttle barrel. This meters the fuel going through the carb when the throttle is closed, or only partially cracked open. Note how the throttle barrel moves in and out a little as it rotates; this pulls the LSN in and out of the main jet. As such, the fuel metered by this needle has already been metered once by the HSN. At more than about half throttle or so this thing has withdrawn completely from the main jet and is doing nothing at all. Adjust AFTER the high speed mix is set right. You adjust the high speed mix you ALSO adjust low speed. 3: Idle stop screw. This doesn't alter fuel mixture any, but rather it retains the throttle barrel, gives it something to cam against so it can move in and out as it rotates, and controls how far closed it can get. Adjust this last, to get the idle speed settled down below clutch engagement point. Fair warning that thing is gonna be an absolute cunt to dial in on gasoline. TN carbs like this always struggle with gasoline AFRs.

8:20 Rat Rod Dune Buggy. Will make packaging easiest, be a build you haven't done yet, and give you an excuse to build something reasonably fast. Also give you something you can actually run on a semi-regular basis without much worry. With how good you are at scratch building frames I'm confident you could come up with a bloody awesome sand rail for it! Another advantage of a dune buggy is you don't really *need* to hide everything. They're all exposed anyway.

7:29 Mounting is fine. I have a Toyan FS-S100 Globe Liner project in the works which only has three holes in the pan for that. M4 screws. You'll tear the chassis apart before you break those screws off or damage the pan in any way.

Hey glad to see you trying these engines like some of us have. I like the car choice. The second choice is not bad either. Some of these gas CDI modules aren't satisfactory but if all fails you can go with nitro and if you want some more details on how to Dennis at "Radio out of control" is deeply involve with all these models. He is now working on the V8. You can also check out "IronD4n" he has the worked on the single cylinder and the L200 like I did but he also worked on the NR200. Dennis is cool he'll get back to you with any questions you may have. Good luck and bring your patients with you. LOL
@karlie_Stirlingkit2 жыл бұрын
CDI has always been a difficult problem to overcome. As you know, it has more adjustments than the nitro version of the distributor. If it is a player who does not know how to use it, it is really not easy to start. Relatively speaking, the NR200 nitro version is more suitable for new players.

2:28 those microscopic spark plugs aren't a new thing, either. I have an engine from 1941 that uses one. This engine predates US involvement in World War Two by a few months! Points fired, of course.

Oh my goodness, can you share your engine?
@michaelanderson30632 жыл бұрын
If you go back to when to the start of model airplanes. The motors all had spark plugs. They also had coils for the plugs and to adjust the spark there where points just behind the props with a level bent back so you could adjust them. Glow plugs came out after them and really turned the hobby around. Also during that early time they had diesel engines. You would adjust them with a screw on the top of the engine. This was in the mid to late 40' and the RC transmitters where the size of small suit case that sat on the ground and you had a small control box in your hand connect with cable to the box. The hobby have come a long way.

I think that engine is more like for a 1/8 scale model! I also think you should build a scale crawler or a trail runner around it. And maybe get a v8 and make a rat rod with the v8. But I guess the 2 cylinder engine would make a great rat rod too! But in a larger scale! Great video and engine!👌😎👍good luck deciding what to make of it!

Hey man nice idea I started ordering parts for a nr200 rat rod build a few months ago, for the transmission I think the three shoe centrifical clutch with two gears on the bell would be best because it can drive a two speed gear box and they don't cost much at all, these engines are only single over head cam the other pulley is just a dummy also there is a super charger available for this engine but the pulley doesn't fit with the flywheel on the gasoline version because of the ignition so I filed a groove into the original flywheel for a belt

what i found with my crawler when i scratch built it, basic a rough copy off a scx 10, is build the thing around the engine and running gear!! had no end off problems with the drive shaft from the gearbox to the drop box snapping on me, because off the angle the shaft is, so now i'm at the point i'm neading to build another chassis to fit fit the gearbox and have a straight shaft to the drop box, so thats what i'd do then come up with a body to fit the chassis insted off trying to fit the chassis to a pre made body. if that makes sence.

2:20 Honest truth I would recommend you just put a pair of OS F glow plugs in that thing and feed it off-the-shelf glow fuel. StirlingKit's ignition systems leave a bit to be desired on reliability and packaging a CDI module, battery, fuel tank, radiator, receiver battery, cranking battery, etc into a rad rod will be a nightmare. Better off just running it glow I think. Plus that carb will meter glow fuel far better than it meters gasoline. NR-200 is one of the better engines they sell, though.

I've seen others use the revo 3.3 transmissions but id be worried it would be too bulky and have a lot of electronics so I was thinking someone could just use a crawler transmission with a dig to the rear end with the engagement dogs filed to be rounded. It would only take one servo and it would probably sound like an impact driver, but it would allow for neutral and a first gear. I'm not saying this idea is at all sound I just wanted to share.

13:23 Traxxas Revo 3.3 transmission. It has reverse, it has brakes, it has two gears it shifts through automatically, it's meant for use with nitro powerplants, and it's reasonably skookum for this application. Steve from RCTNT has used them in a couple of his Toyan powered builds to good effect. That engine will obliterate anything from RC4WD. The power delivery from it is more kin to an impact gun and it's gonna be a torquey mofo besides. Those RC4WD transmissions are not designed for that kind of power nor are they designed for the way that power is delivered.

6:25 18,000RPM is NOTHING. That's about what a Tamiya silvercan 540 does on 6s NiCD/2s Lipo and only about half of what a mild two stroke in a typical nitro RC car does. You are, if anything, way undergeared and may find it excruciatingly slow. You may also have clutch issues; the clutches for these engines are designed for two strokes that rev out well north of 30,000 so they generally don't even really begin to engage worth a damn until somewhere around 12-15k. This engine makes its best power in the 9-15k range. You're gonna have to really heavily work on that clutch to get it to engage properly. If you can work the clutch issues out for it and you gear it like you would a Tamiya Frog you'll have decent-ish rat rod performance. It won't be fast but it won't be slow either.
@karlie_Stirlingkit2 жыл бұрын
If it is a two-stroke engine, it can of course reach 30,000 rpm, you know what I mean, but it is not just for performance, and the degree of simulation is also the key to consider.
