A truly brilliant scene; even if you didn't like this movie, you can appreciate this. It's really, really wonderful.

this is one of my favourite reflective character speeches; Dr. Manhattan's reflections in Watchmen, Leonard's reflections in the Memento bed scene, & the brilliant lines of Vincent Freeman in Gattaca are but a few examples of dialogue so wonderfully composed, it's as if they are works of art themselves. this is definitely one of the best one's though; 5 stars to Phillip K. Dick for putting these words together in such amazing fashion.

I thought Roarshachs musing were brilliant writing too in Watchmen.

A little late, but you're right. Most how I can think as, his most UNWOODEN performance.

ye, hes ait here but his performance in a scanner darkly confirmed my opinion of him as character actor (in absurdum almost), able to play 1 dramatic archetype: a zombie-like, emotionally/intellectually numb man, lost in a jungle of good/evil/profane/sacred but with a strong moral compass (signals from which he is unable to make sense of for the most part). gotta give him credit for making the most out of his natural facial expression. Stupid becomes puzzled/tormented (fo real, aint f-n around)

Cause if the scanner sees only darkly, the way I do, then I'm cursed and cursed again. And I'll only wind up dead this way, knowing very little and getting that little fragment wrong too.

It's more than an eye. Many eyes, and one big one..the source. And yea...I never really understood this part-until I had a personal experience.

@politeruin That's kinda how I perceived it. I'm a little more of a simpleton but I saw it basically as he's lost himself in the craze of the drug addiction. And though he knows he's a good person he can't see how anymore and hopefully that the scanners can prove it to him. Because if no one else can see it then he is truly lost.

@akathasamurai It's because he's speaking lightly, which most actors are supposed to avoid 99% of the time.

@politeruin I've always liked Keanu...it just seems like some of his biggest parts have been the victim of bad writing.

Is this the actual audio? It doesn't sound like Keanu for some reason.
