There was a period in my young adult life where I turned to this music as a refuge from the confusion swirling all around me. It was not an escape but a deliberate strategy to maintain inner focus to advance calmly through some of life's darker moments. Coming back to this years later I realize that there is always a reason to listen to this music. If only more people did just that...

I never went through what you did, but I could not agree more completely that there is always a reason to listen to this music and I wish more people would. I think it could bring more peace to the world because it puts you in a state of mind where everything else seems not so important.

Is it true that Scarlatti passed most of his life in Spain?
@fabmar5151
@fabmar5151 6 жыл бұрын
This is true for his son Domenico, who was also a composer and a keyboard virtuoso. Domenico spent most of his life in Spain. Alessandro Scarlatti spent most of his life between Naples and Rome.

I've always wanted to be part of a baroque chamber orchestra. The big groups do big classical, romantic, and modern pieces and they are often a treat to play but my heart is always with Baroque music.

To think that there was a time when the only Baroque available was Romantic style arrangements that were all sound and fury that did not do any justice to the Scarlattis and their contemporaries! JS Bach would not have liked one bit the way Stokowsky ruined his TOCCATA AND FUGUE at the beginning of FANTASIA.

MIDDLE AGES?! The author of this music was born in 1660 and died in 1725, while the Middle Ages span from the 5th century to the late 15th century - an unacceptable error of about 200 years...

@bla bla and m.e.s and Zanivan;...if the Germans have propagated their musical heritage without due recognition of these Italian masters, please don't disregard Handel's acknowledgement of the Scarlattis and Corelli and the Italian operatic influences on that giant of baroque. Anyway ...the continuing rich Italian heritage from Rossini Donizetti through to Verdi and Puccinl will never be hidden. Perhaps time for Italy to re- invigorate its baroque pioneering genius in the concert and opera halls of Europe.

Yes indeed. "If Only." If only a Time Machine, Penicillin, Antibiotics and Strawberry Ice Cream Sodas had been in existence during the Blessed Baroque Era I would strap myself into my Time Machine, say a very earnest prayer to The Boss, and then I'd be out of here faster than anyone could say, 'What happened to Mr.Excelsior? You know - that Odd Duck who lived around the corner next to the Katzenjammer Family." [Type your own personal "If Only" below and then hit "Reply." Who knows? Anything's possible - right?]
