It might be worth mentioning that it’s a good idea to use a plastic barrier between the case and the case removal tool thus preventing the damage.

Kalle, I am really enjoying your videos. I could literally listen to you and watch you all day. I have a Breitling Colt automatic that I purchased in 1997. I hope to soon get a pre owned Rolex oyster perpetual, if I'm lucky. I wish I'd got into watches earlier in life, who knows, I might have become a watch maker like you. Keep up the good work, the world needs mechanical watches. Best wishes from the UK! 🇬🇧

Kalle, thank you for such a detailed explanation of grinding and polishing process. Every time when I watch your video, I learned something new! What grid of sand paper do you use for circular graining?
@ChronoglideWatchmaking5 ай бұрын
Very fine grain. Different brands use different grains. You’ll have to experiment I’m afraid.

Thanks as always Kalle for Educating, Training and Entertaining us! Couple of questions if I may please: What RPM do your machines run at? Do they spin from the "bottom to the top" ie clockwise looking from the end of the machine? What grit is your "graining paper"? best regards, Geoff from Merimbula Australia

Hi Kalle, thank you as always for the highly informative video. I have been working on vintage restoration for a couple of years now, including movement, dial/hands and case. Would you be willing to do a follow up video specifically on radial brushing of both sloped and flat bezels? I can reproduce radial brushing on a sloped bezel or case shoulder, that I believe is done professionally with a lapping machine, by using a brushing/texturing wheel in a polishing machine and holding the case/bezel on the edge of the wheel, but I have not been successful in reproducing a satisfactory finish when the bezel is parallel with the plane of the watch crystal. I’m interested in the machining required to achieve this finish, and whether there is a work around if one can’t afford an expensive machine. Thank you and regards, Russell Singleton.

Kalle, would you think it's ok not to have an exhaust or vent when using the polishing wheel? Or is it too risky?

Is there a way to fix a dent in the case back?
@ChronoglideWatchmaking5 ай бұрын
lay the case back on a flat surface and gently tap it out with a flat stake from your staking set. in gold you can rub it out with some firm wood.

Great tips Kalle. I do have a request or question. How do you correct the acid etching from a rear case rim? I’ve had a few watches with stainless case backs and base metal cases. The case area just outside the case back is badly pitted. It’s a difficult area to work. Any tips would be very helpful. Thank you for your time and mentorship.
@ChronoglideWatchmaking5 ай бұрын
Thank you for your kind words. The etching is a real touch one. We see it with some people with a higher acid level on their skin or certain medication. Didn’t reach a satisfactory result yet. Did some experimenting with soldering certanium “tin”. Sorry I do not have a better answer for you (yet).

Hi Kelle Great video will help me massively, could you tell me what grit of artifex you used for this process Ie 150 or 250 ? Thanks
@ChronoglideWatchmaking5 ай бұрын
I prefer 250 medium, but that is purely subjective. Then there is hard and medium. Order all and experiment (if budget allows of course). I do not have any Artifex shares if you were wondering 🤣

May I know what type of Artifex grit you are using in this video? Like medium, coarse or soft? Thank.

I believe it’s 250 medium, but it is nice to experiment. Maybe another is more to your liking.

Hello there, can i make a request, please..... I have been a Seiko watch "an amateur" "or tinkerer" for five years or more, I've specialised in Seiko both vintage and classic, but not the new so much..... So here is the point, I have reached a stage where good vintage watches have become affordable, but the gold plate is rubbed, say on the Lord Matic 36000 for example... I wondered if you could teach us all how to gold plate in the K that the watches are plated in and how to plate as Seiko plated... It is quite easy as long as you know the rules or technique and inexpensive too BUT it is as expensive as you want it to be so a simple process would be ideal...... Thanks....

The more I watch these videos, the more I understand that watch restoration cannot be a hobby. There is too much you need to have, and for one person, it is too much.

You can always improvise a little. By pure coincidence I did this same task myself this afternoon and guess what, it was also a 6309 case back. I used an electric drill in place of the lathe. I made up a tool to hold the case back by brazing a 20mm washer onto a steel bolt. I secured the case back to the washer part of the tool with a bit of melted shellac and adjusted until centred while the shellac was still warm. The result was definitely good enough by my eyes.

Serieus materiaal geeft serieus resultaat. Succes Tim!
