Apologies for the shaky video at times, we use a GoPro Hero 10 and it does not like hot temps and overheats quickly when image stabilizer is on. Thanks for watching !

Former Seabee owner here. What an absolutely truly pleasurable video to watch! Lots of great footage of the Bee and just an all-around pleasant day at the Airfield. Kudos on a job well done!!

If you are curious the little door in the front corner is to make climbing from or to a dock easier, or for throwing it catching lines, etc. Like the bow hatch in most flying boats. I guess on a float planes you just stand on the floats.

A few friends and I bought one of these many years ago, and flew it to Sudbury Airport, and got permission to keep it there for the summer. My friend had an island in Lake Tamagami, about 30 miles East of Sudbury, Ontario. I only had 2 hrs float plane training, when we bought this plane. I kept my share of the plane for about three years and sold out after a couple hundred hours. Only a couple of us got to fly it quite a bit. It was fun to fly off the water, but you had to watch how much fuel you put in her. With only a few gallons of fuel and four people, it was still a tad over-weight. It held 75 gallons. 1/4 tank and three people , it flew pretty well !

I may be mistaken but I believe the original engine in the Seabees was a 190 hp. Franklin. Very smooth running engine.

1060 in the space of a year is a very respectable production run. Shame they only built them for a year. I bet they didn't suffer any unsold units.

Early seventies there were a number of promotion articles in major plane magazines. Victoria, BC in Canada, just north of Seattle, was going to become the "aviation hub" and build these things for the retail market. Never happened, though the airport HAS a seaplane arrival point, and you drive across the highway onto the airport grounds (Sidney, Saanichton). It's been the long time home of VIKING Air, which has the modification licenses for various Canadian planes, like the Beaver.

A very nice looking Seabee. Actually, if it has the go-480 in it, it's the Super Seabee modification as none were built at the factory that way. Originally they came with a 210hp Franklin engine which made the plane somewhat underpowered. This has 270-280hp which gives it much better acceleration and climb. Still doesn't fly very fast, though 😂

Saw one of these, or very like it, 40 - 50 years ago at a small airport in Washington State. Oddest feature that stuck in my memory was a warning plate to have a weight, 50 lbs(?), in the passenger seat if flying solo.

I've always thought these were a great concept. One used to fly out of the airport in Oregon where I was learning to fly. Apparently the control surfaces were hydraulic, and never stopped leaking! 😜

You repeated yourself there. Hydraulic is a synonym of "never stops leaking".

Many years ago Norway had some of the Seabee as ambulances. I think there is still some of them in Sweden.

A flying boat only lands and takes off from water, it has no wheels. A Float plane has floats, attached by struts, it may or may not have wheels. An amphibian is an aircraft that can land on water, but can also move from the water to land, usually a beach or a ramp. A flying boat, a float plane and an amphibian are ALL seaplanes.

Any plane that takes off or lands on water is a seaplane. You have flying boats, float planes, and amphibians of both forms, they all belong to the general class of seaplane.
