Latest installment of the 1993 / 1994 Sea-doo spx & xp project. In this video I remove the flywheels and switch the stator from one engine to another because the two types were different. I also install the new engine into the xp.

Youturd is right, pootube is a good description of them too, this awesome dude posted a 10 minute video and shitty pootube managed to cram 8 ads into the video,if that doesn't show how crap the admins at Youturd are then what does, then they have the nerve to ask me to pay for the privilege of having the ads removed, the only privilege I will give them is the honour of being told to fuck off quickly 😂🤣😂🤣😂👍

For anyone watching this 8 years later, you would have been so much better off just doing a top end job on the lower compression engine, imo. Cheaper and easier to do. That said, huge props for doing it the crazy way.

There are two gizmos on the bottom of the hull inside. 15:26 They are called scuppers. This is the reason your boat is not dry inside when you take it to the lake. They (remember this is a Canadian machine) do the opposite of what they were meant to do. They put water IN your boat, and not remove it. Remove them and plug the holes in the rear. Also, I see you have one of those cheesy Bombardier bilge pumps. Notice they put it level with the carbs. This is to insure once the scuppers have done their job, the engine will suck a giant lung of water and bend a rod, before the pump comes on. Discard this worthless piece and put a proper bilge pump on the very bottom , with a fused switch in your glove box. Also check your pulse line to your fuel pump. If its original it was made from pixie foreskins, and will fall apart causing your engine to suck air. It will run really good for about 10 seconds, then melt together if this leaks. I realize you got it for a song, but there is a reason for that. I would sell that to the next sucker at the lake next year. If you want to avoid these and many other French foibles, by an Asian machine.

You mentioned something about safety and the grinder, so let me relate one experience. I went out for dinner with friends one evening, during the evening one got a call, another friend had been working on something with a grinder with the shield removed, just like yours. While grinding on something the disk shattered and a chunk of it entered his stomach, he bled out before the ambulance got there, the news of his untimely death kind of ruined the evening. Every time I use a grinder I make sure that safety shield is firmly attached.

SBT is. The company that sells completely rebuilt. Engines. They are in Florida an have been doing watercraft and snowmobiles for years. Excellent score ! You bought a old machine with a new engine that's a good score they SBT does use. All original. Factory parts on their rebuilds and at one time they had a great warranty. And service department i used their engines on two occasions with Perfect. Results btw pulling the jet pump and impeller is not as. Difficult as the shop manuals portray it to be. In the books and factory literature they. Were very adiment About needing SeaDoo pullers that were ridiculously priced from Bombardier. I made my own using some angle iron, all thread and a nut. Tacked in place it worked great and didn't cost me the 90 bucks the SeaDoo one was you are right on track. About customizing tools. For the tight quarters. The engines are in over time i wound up with a strange assortment of 10mm box wrenches and sockets As i remember that being one of the most common. Sizes another trick a guy that builds race. Engines. Taught me was to always use CopperGasket. Spray on. The head gaskets his claim. Was that was the only. Thing to prevent the head gaskets. From leaking under the high compression and heat he was a Kawasaki Jet Ski. Specialist But i used. That on all the machines i had over the years a interesting. Fact. Was on the Kawasaki motors if the gasket leaked it would allow exhaust gases into the waterjackets and. The motors would not cool properly and overheat ! As you probably know by now the cooling water is " pumped through the motors by a tube in the jet pump thru the motor and out into the exhaust. System to help muffle the noise and keep the pipes cool too on the alignment of the engine and shaft. I always. Just simply put the shims. Back where i found them and never had any issues ? Ive had at least 6. Engines in and out of Watercraft over the years including a new SBT motor. And a rebuilt Kawasaki. Stand up motor which in over 10 years of ownership proved to be the most reliable. Motor of. All the machines. We had also the least powerful too as that was only A 650 dual carb setup and i think the one you are working on. Is a a 700 dual carb, the SeaDoo motors were always the more powerful in the power band. For some reason. Their motor and machines were. Always faster than many others i own a old SeaDoo that has had. Many performanc parts. Put on. The machine is. A 1990. And has all the. Original graphics and seat on it But that. Machine is very quick out of the hole and has pissed offmany other riders on bigger machines At top speed those guys would blow me away but not out of the starting spot it. Basically has upgraded impeller. And a Coffman. Exhaust Plus a bored Mikuni carb Not. Really. Anything high tech. It was one of my first machines ever and i went overboard on the performance. Stuff. Ive always told my freinds it. Isn't. Worth the costs for what you get out of the parts. But i did it for. Fun and entertainment plus it was a learning experience If. I was ever to reall build a true sleeper i would do a complete engine swap on a machine that looks old and crappy but stick a 1200 motor under the seat another. Small peice of advice. On the SeaDoos is something i heard you say. A little about. But want to emphasize greatly. Is cranking the starters. A great deal. They do overheat and fry very easily. And are expensive plus a pain in the backside to replace ! I spent. A full Memorial weekend at the beach one year in the dark. Replacing one because the whole family was. Asking if they can use one of the jetskis on the trailer Of course. I. Kept thinking to myself. How hard can it be to. Replace. A stupid little starter ? Ive. Done. Harder things. Than that It was a bitch finding one on Memorial weekend. When everyone is closed plus working in the 100 degree heat out in the sun With kids asking is. It done yet?

Hey! I know this is an old video of yours, but it takes time to go through all of them :D As for the small wrenches - drill a hole in one end and loop a string through it, that way if you drop it, you'll have one end attached to it for your convenience. Great videos. Greetings from North-East Europe!

The seadoo with the good hull and bad engine is modified. The cover for the flywheel being silver means it came off a 720cc engine. The reason the engine is bad is because if it misses while running it also won’t get the right amount of oil and burn up the motor as you can see.

My dad had a v10 cargo van and the ford v10s are known for spitting out spark plugs. Well at the time we were changing one sitting in a gas station parking lot. He hit the button on the back of the ratchet on something and it released the socket and extension right down the spark plug hole. Luckily we could get one of them magnet extensions down and pulled it out.

@timetable620 6 жыл бұрын
mwilliamshs I am sure sorry I didn’t specify that it wasn’t the spark plug socket. See when it spit the spark plug it also broke the little plastic tab that holds the coil pack in. So when removing the 10mm bolt he dropped that socket down the hole. Not the spark plug socket

for future small metal things going in tight places, I'd recomend a "stick with a magnet" I have done some work on planes where the space is limited at best, so.. for a screw falling in the tight spots for example (wich could be catastrophic if left there), nothing better than that. o/c we used a "professional tool" but it's nono more than a glorified old telescopic radio antena with a magnet at the end. xD

Pretty amazing how your engine was hexed. For the future I'd recommend taking a sharpie to the end of the trimmer line so you can affirm no length loss; or use some nice, finely-braided, limp rope to fill the jug after the piston is down only an inch or so (to avoid clipping via the flow ports). Purchases or yard-sale finds I'd recommend: Telescoping or goose-neck retrieval magnet and an impact wrench (such as HF 1/2" electric, often on coupon for $39.99 or less). I was surprised you didn't put on carbs before installing the engine (or maybe you snarfed a granola bar off camera). I just came upon your vids via the 90 > 125 swap, the non-generating Generhack, etc. Quite the amusingly-singular narration, videography, humor and wife-play. Enjoyably unpredictable and satisfying repair outcomes. Bravo! I look forward to more such original docu-dramas. Gracias! (P.S. Sans major tools that most hoard in triplicate, you provide great encouragement to the budget DIYers, while also revealing the most essential gadget: confident willful persistence. No-turning-back is the paramount hack. Did you feel lucky on the stator coil diameter accommodating the flywheel, or was that pre-assuaged by measurement?)

@LeObsidianCraft 7 жыл бұрын
Matthew Stein either too lean or a bad pump for the water cooling
@Steinerrides
@Steinerrides 7 жыл бұрын
Yeah that's true, but the ring crushing the piston leads me to believe it was too lean. the ring usually won't crush a piston if the waterpump is bad because the whole cylinder heats up and expands to and allows the ring to expand as well. if the cylinder is being cooled properly, and its running too lean, the heat causes the ring to expand, but not the cylinder, leading to a crushed piston. It could have been a combination of the two as well i suppose
@Steinerrides
@Steinerrides 7 жыл бұрын
Also you generally don't get melted pistons unless it's leaned out because you get a hotter flame. If your water pump is bad, you shouldn't have higher combustion temperatures to the point where is starts melting stuff.

@ 5:05 It was either run on straight gas or some one ran it dry. It looks like no water. No oil would have been worse. Just a guess. Depends, though, on how long it was run, in either condition. It got very hot. My guess is the water pump failed and they decided to "limp" back to the launch ramp. Engine is garbage. BTW I am loving this! I think you will come out ahead. Nice video, what did surprise me was how dirty the crank cases were but you didn't clean them when the engine was out. Also other parts that were really dirty hou seem to just them back with know concern. Did you clean them later or did I miss something?
