For future reference, I have found the best way to clean rust and corrosion from aluminum carbs is to get a cheap handheld sand blaster from horrible freight, but use baking soda instead of sand. Works beautifully, and baking soda is super cheap. It’s just abrasive enough to remove the schmoo, but doesn’t damage the aluminum. Made my 30 year old Gold Wing carbs look like brand new. Once you try it, you’ll never use anything else.

Lovely to see you back again,but im affraid if its ingested water esspecially sea water (looks like its smashed against rocks and sank) being a two stroke doesnt have oil in crankshaft so any salt water will strip the chrome off the needle rollers in the conrod/big end bearings so it will erode itself away once its running.so it really needs a complete rebuild

Hi jake.this reminds me back in the day any owner of a ski doo with a single cylinder Rotax had a 1/2 inch wrench with a bend to remove the carb. Only way to get the right side carb mount bolt off. It was hidden behind the shroud, Thanks for the memory. BTW the cheaper the wrench the easier it is to bend without risk of breaking. (less carbon and poorer heat treating leaves them much more malleable).
@wrongmark6 жыл бұрын
I had one of these I bought also while under the influence of alcohol for £500. Cleaned the carbs and it ran perfectly. These are quite difficult to ride though. Most guys used to a more modern hull will be spat off it within the first 5 mins. Good fun though. It’s so difficult to falloff a modern one in comparison, although I have managed it.

I had a 1970 Yamaha 60 JT2MX. It had a rotary valve. I had a 1972 Coleman Skiroule 440. I think that had a Rotax. Never had to take the engine apart. It may have been rotary valve. That thing was powerful. Watch out for ignition coils mounted on the cylinders. That was what stopped my Skiroule. Sold it before I realized the problem. Hind sight is 20/20. I have heard of that issue with outboards also. If your two stroke gets hot and shuts down and starts right up when cold and the coils are on the cylinders, the coils are bad. I would have remounted them if I had know this. Spoiled snowmobile trip. Argh. 30 years ago. :-)

Same wrench problem working on Mercruiser engines. You have to make a bent 9/16th wrench in order to remove the exhaust risers in order to do just about any work on the motor and most commonly they mount the old Mercruiser into tight spaces.
@jenniesgarage11 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip. Those look handy!

It would have been easier to remove the engine, which had to be done anyway to clean up those bearings. Then the intake manifold comes off which gives you access to the carbs.

Those motors get submerged a lot. If its fresh water its usually okay salt water can add more problems BTW Distributor wrenches are bent 90 degrees in the other direction and will often let you get access from a different angle. I have a 13mm one i shortened the handle on to get into tight spots its a 13mm box wrench that Ford sold in the 70s for the Pinto distributor adjustment bolt ! Not my car B TW but a Uncle had to buy one for his daughters car and she sold it shortly after and gave me that wrench 13mm will fit most 1/2” bolts too so it was used a lot working on my cars and Motorcycles ! That hull looks like it can be repaired but I’m not sure its worth the time and effort although that motor is one of the better ones SeaDoo used over the years and if its a runner you could transplant it into another hull pretty easily you should be able to find plenty of that generation out there with non running motors as it was a very popular machine in the 90s its still one of my favorites for power to weight ratio on the ski

If I thought that a small watercraft had been submerged for a significant amount of time, first I'd do what I'd do for a car - drain the sump, empty the fuel tank, and blow out all the lines and hoses. Then I would add sacrificial fuel and oil, drain and repeat until they ran clear of foreign liquids. If I saw salts, oxides or gritty sludges, I'd plan on a major engine teardown. This being a small craft, I'd invert the whole unit, wait to see what else flowed out and then remove the entire engine.

My dad and I bought a used gtx 1996 from a marina repair shop. A shitty mechanic installed a started that had 1 tooth less and they thought the engine was seized. They never took the starter off and some plugs to spin the engine to see. The ski cost us 500$ and we fixed it for 45 dollars. The starter solenoid failed and made the starter engage while the engine was running which caused the initial failure of the starter. It took us 30minutes to figure out what they did wrong and in two days we had it up and running. Only used on fresh water. What a steal.

Ive owned Sea Doos and Kawasaki jetskis. Since the early 90s including that very. Model there is a company in. Ft Lauderdale Fl that. Will. Ship a long block engine with a warranty for around one thousand dollars. You must. Ship them back your. Core but as i was watching you You got that motor. To turn over and sound like you have good compression and spark a very common problem on that age craft was SeaDoo used. A old. Style fuel line that. Cracked and They lost fuel pressure I. Used to just. Replace. All the lines with a silicone clear lines i bought from a local. Repair shop overall. The Bombardier Engines. Are pretty. Good motors for two strikers. They are used in a lot of aviation Apps because of their reliability another fyi. Is the factory. Fuel filters work surprisingly well We've sunk the machines. And i pulled plugs and pumped the water out of the cylinders and got them to run. For years ! From the sounds of what you got after doing the carbs. I will. Have to say. I think you are golden on that motor a true test of course would be compression gauge to know. The condition of intenerals its common for them to suck a piston but the engine can be bored one time between my brother inlaw and i I think we've owned over 10 machines up to 1997 XP Rave exhaust model. Which was their top machine for that year Out of all the. Machines my favorite. Hull style is. That one you are working on. It. Has the sponsons on the hull sides that. Will give you a. Tight fast corner. If. You dip it. All the way on its side imo. That was. Sea Doos. Best machine for power./weight ratio. As the watercraft wars went on between all the manufacturers. Every one kept putting bigger engines in. And the vessels grew in size. And weight that made them not as sporty as the older ones its sort of. Taking a Harley. Street bike. And using it. For a dirt bike ? A funny. Thing. As i did ride ironically. A 1977 AMF Harley Enduro 175 ! That bike had Chrome metal fenders and a Steel gas tank. When. Bikes like the Suzuki RM dirt bikes. Had already gon to lightweight plastic ! I. Raced a RM 125 who. Ate the ass off. The Harley. And could jump Over me on the hills lol the Harley was a cool bike. At the time. Even being aAMF. And not really Harley owned in that. Time ? I wish i still. Had it as they are. Hard to find on Ebay and. Craigslist now Although i. Have managed to hold onto my Fathers. 1964 Honda 90. Motorcycle! That is actually still stock and in. Fair shape for what it is
