We net the heads of our sunflowers to keep the birds from taking the seed before they have dried up. The net serves three purposes, one, it lets the seeds dry and two, if any should fall off they stay in the netting, and of course three, to keep the birds from eating them. We do let two sunflowers go to the birds for food. The netting comes from the fabric store. We cut a large square and tie up the four corners over the sunflower head. If you get the netting in different colors, the sunflowers look like they have pretty scarfs on. Lol! Love, love, love, your vidos!!!!!

I am working my way through your videos... It's fun! I wanted to thank you because you are making me think like a resourceful gardener. I just a bunch of bamboo from my neighbor and I thought it would support all my plants, but as I continue to garden, I ran out of it pretty quickly. After watching this video and chopping down some tall boneset(I think) growing wild in my backyard, I have decided to dry the stems and try to use them for supports. The stems are essentially the same size and thickness of a sunflower. Thanks for teaching me how to problem solve in the garden!!! 🌱🌱🌻🌻🌻

Shookiedoodle😉 who else backs up to catch phrases and to catch all the tips etc. Your tours are jam packed with so much good info. Fun and great tips and suggestions. I really needed a local person who could take me step by step through our growing seasons and help keep me on tract. I can no longer multi task to the degree that i can keep it all straight while doing it all. I feel like im not alone in my own thoughts and lessons in gardening and find someone else enjoys it like i do...we have so much in common...and yet very unique as well. I love it and appreciate your candidness and yet the joy of it all exudes throughout also. I dont know how your doing this all in this heat. This years attempts were pretty much a failure in what comes to the tablefor me..but with so many years experience, i know to shoot for fall. Physical set backs, bad weather and heat index etc made it harder but ive learned continuing to look at the next steps and always looking to try again and broaden the ways to figure out what works best is a daily lesson full of information . You just never stop learning in the garden of life...possibly an analogy lol. Didnt know you could save sunflower stalks for using for support. I hope one day to have coffee, swap a,couple seeds and talk about all the lessons and neat developments and finds in the garden. Your enriching so many lives by sharing whats inside. Your enthusiasm resonates with my own...and i find when you find others who love growing and learning in the garden you find a great soul. God bless you and provide, so you might continue to bless us with more programs.

I've learned so much from you, I felt I needed to share a tip. I gave up zip ties for 1/8 inch armature wire to build my cattle panel trellises. It is super easy to bend and reuse. I just wrap it around about three times at the point I am joining the panels, leaving tails at each end so it will be easy to unwind for storing the panels.

Great vlog! We raised 120 chickens while still renting egg money was nice. Sold 85 pullets without trying but when we decided to purchase a place. I was over so many chickens so selling most of them was really nice! We built a really nice house and pen for chickens at the new farm but don't have any chickens at the moment the plan is 15 long term 25 or 30. Just trying to predator proof the perimeter first so i can turn them out during the day on pasture. Our veggie garden is pathetic this year so much extra money and time at the grocery store. We also didn't raise meat birds or turkeys this year so $$ on poultry. Honestly i don't mind as much for now too much other stuff happening. We raise our own beef. We buy lamb from a local family and need to raise some hogs this fall since we are out of pork. Home grown is always better if not local is the same :) We always share with family, friends and neighbors. Long term i would love a dairy cow for ice cream, butter, milk and a couple nubian goats mostly for soaps and lotions. Got to start some where :) slowly it will come together. Our garden is our next priority this year family and friends have shared lots with us but i miss my grocery store in my back yard.
