Very nice Steve. Large enough for lots of signatures :). I like the idea of cutting the segments on edge for more height, it worked out great. I can see that you planned the process well in advance, that paid off in the end. All around very impressive.

Thanks Gil. Cutting the segments on edge worked out well. Plus it kept the weight down. It's not that heavy given it's size. Thanks for watching and for the comment. Take care, Steve

Steve that's one more great project. I don't know what I would have done If I was told to make a rocket. Can I use Pine glue ups while I'm trying to learn how to turn. Something like 4 by 4s from the big box stores and 5 to 7 inch glue ups by me? Will it hurt if they are treated lumber or must they be regular? When I can turn at least half way decent then I'll go to what ever I can find at some of the lumber mills around. Thanks for your help, I really like your videos and thanks for sharing. God Bless my friend.

Thanks Frank! I appreciate the comments. You can certainly use pine to practice. One of the first piece I turned was a glue up of a 2x10 I picked up at the home center. I cut it into pieces and glued them together into a big block about 9 inches square. Pine is easy to turn but does have a lot of pitch in it so it gums up tools and the lathe but nothing that can't be cleaned off. Popular is an inexpensive wood that could be glued up and turned as well. I stay away from pressure treated as I don't want to be exposed to whatever chemicals are used in the process. If you do you pressure treated wear a respirator...not a dust mask but a respirator. Keep practicing and you'll be turning (pun intended) out quality pieces before you know it. Take care, Steve

Another awesome project. What type of adapter are you using to hold your chuck in the tail stock? It makes the glue up process much easier.
@slindsley19518 жыл бұрын
Thanks Julian. What I had in the tail stock is called a live tailstock chuck adapter. I got mine at Penn State but I know others like Woodcraft carry a similar product. It's one of those things that after I started using it I had to ask myself why I didn't get one sooner! Here's a link to the one I bought. www.pennstateind.com/store/LTCA18.html Thanks for watching and for the comment. Take care, Steve
