The thing that I find most hilarious about the whole thing is that..Carey actually restrained himself in his portrayal of Olaf..I remember when I first saw it and I half expected Carey to go balls to the wall and go all odd ball as he did in the majority of his films..but he went more of the Truman show angle and only went to a certain level. Neil Patrick Harris portrayal on the other hand feels like he is going 100% Carey..his facial expressions look and some of his looks..reminds me of Ace Ventura level Carey, in this sense..he is more Carey than Carey was!.

When Snicket wrote the books, he never knew for sure that he would get another book until The Austere Academy. At that point, the series was officially contracted with a guarantee of 13 books, so he was finally able to safely plot multiple-book-long arcs and plotlines, hence why TAA is the book where the VFD plot really started. Here, though, the show has the opportunity to plan things out from the very beginning, resulting in a far more consistent series.

Pretty reasonable, though keep in mind. There's a hilariously meta moment at the start of episode 5 where the actor playing poe freaks out about the kids running away to a fish seller. He rants about it being off-book (which it is, doesn't happen in the books). But it's genius because the fish seller is played by David Handler, the author of the books. A little fun tongue in cheek acknowledgement that they've made some changes.

Well the whole series has an element of adaptions 'issues' if you're a purist. But the everything is being overseen by Handler, as since the book series he didn't have a direction til almost half way through, which leads the early stuff and later stuff feeling abit disjointed; it feels like TV series is trying to make everything flow together better with the overall plot the books eventually had. It also seems to blend in elements from the Movie that weren't in the books. So it feels like a culmination of everything and could end up being the definitive version of the story.
