I read this article about hate watching and how Netflix is probably the worst about it considering how their system benefits shows with a lot of views and if they make it through the entire season or not. The idea of it is in line with how social media and controversial articles/videos play out, where the controversy triggers views on both sides, some believing no way, and then triggers discussion ie engagement. In hate watch, tv shows get a bad name but then people have to watch to see if it's "really as bad as people say it is" and continue to watch because "it can't get worse then this, can it?" By the end they are upset and take to complaining about the show. The act of complaining is enjoyable for some, triggering endorphins. They are now unknowingly putting the show out there for more people to learn about it and the cycle continues. It's horrible and not the kind of platform I'd like to have myself. I know I've definitely accidentally been part of the hate watching crowd before, but now I just come to videos like this to learn all I need.

Well, maybe they're doing it based on viewership. I mean, I certainly don't watch this crap, but now I'm morbidly curious about this horde of viewers that Netflix is convinced will get them pretty, pretty metrics to show to the shareholders come end of the year. Edit: I mean, who _are_ these people? What demographics do Netflix think they're from? Do they actually exist, or are they mostly illusory?? Inquiring minds want to know...

Emily in the Philippines: -filmed in Florida -takes place in Manila and only Manila -never rides a jeepney or tricycle to work, only carabao -everyone is dirt poor and half naked, even in the wealthier districts of Manila -eats nothing but lumpia and chicken adobo -everyone has to step over bamboo poles barefoot during daily walks -wears a parol around her neck, especially in other parts of the year outside of Christmas. -teaches people the beauty of umbrellas instead of banana leaves during rainy season -solves the poverty problem by being gracious enough to pay the homeless child who splashed her windshield (I mean carabao) with soapy water by paying them $2.

This video was eye opening cause I thought this was obvious 😅😂 I thought it was the point of the show to show Americans how dumb they are. Emily is a typical ignorant American doing and saying dumb things and trying to get by in France. Everyone is “mean” to her because she’s inconsiderate and ignorant. I actually enjoyed the show from this view point, that the French were the intelligent, wise, and creative ones while Emily was very rigid and basic. I was very disappointed as the show carried in that they didn’t dive deeper into the French characters lives and ACTUAL French culture.

Emily in Morocco: - Filmed entirely in the Sahara Desert. Everything is made from intricately patterned Moroccan tiles. - Everyone drinks mint tea 10 times a day and is always offering it to Emily. - Every man wears a traditional djellaba and rides a camel, even to work. - The whole city smells of spices, and people constantly talk about the best tagine recipe. - Everyone is obsessed with storytelling and quoting Ibn Battuta. - Emily is invited to countless rooftop dinners under the stars, complete with belly dancing performances. - Instead of Uber, Emily hails a donkey cart to get around the medina. - Whenever someone enters a room, they greet everyone individually with cheek kisses-this takes about an hour. - Emily learns to haggle in the souk and ends up buying way too many hand-woven rugs. - She teaches everyone how to make the perfect French croissant, only to have them improve it with saffron and cinnamon. - Emily climbs a sand dune at sunrise and finds inner peace while Instagramming. - She wins a cooking competition with a twist on couscous, blending in avocado toast. - Emily meets a charming prince during a festival, who turns out to be an undercover carpet seller. - Emily sets off on a road trip to the Atlas Mountains in a classic Peugeot 404 with her new friends, blasting Gnawa music.

@@Monie71793 the way she went about it was completely wrong and disrespectful. In Europe, the customer is NOT above the chef. And if you HAVE to send it back, you go about it politely instead of being rude like her.

I agree. She ordered 'medium rare', which is undercooked. She should've ordered 'medium well done'. This shows how ignorant she is that she doesn't know the difference. I think it’s kinda like how a young naive American teenage girl would imagine going to Paris, everyone speaks English, French white dudes, who also magically speak english, love and want her, she teaches everybody the American way, always gets what she wants and gets away with everything, has designer clothes and lives in an apartment, she can both technically not afford.

Emily isn't a character. She has no definable personality, no hobbies, no interests. She's a complete shell of a person who just reacts to things with no reason behind her reactions. She's such a boring person to have as a protagonist, because her only character traits are American and annoying. Also her style is trash. I like Lily Collins, but it's so weird that she got a Golden Globe nom for this role when this character would make any actor look like they've never acted before in their lives.

Moreover, she likes do explore things and is very creative. She also is an influencer and she likes to read books. No character, huh?

Let's be honest: Emily's boss had every right to be pissed. Expatriates are expensive as hell and France is one of the most costliest place to send workers overseas(also Emily's apartment is no doubt costly) and yet the company sends someone who doesn't even know their own language to tell them what to do? They're practically throwing money down the drain!

Poor management isn't a right gained by acquisition and I'm sure this American company would view her placement there as an embarrassing oversight. The point of business is to make money and with globalization this is done through cohesion. This is a stupid show written like it was made in 1998 for closeted uncultured soccer mom's.
@PERRYOL
@PERRYOL 3 жыл бұрын
@@lawrencesao7379 actually, it is. Sophie doesn't own the business. She is a mere employee who can be fired at any point. Much like you can think your boss is ineffective as much as you like but in the end it matters not one lick what you think. Also, I don't know what company you work for but I actually work in this industry: marketing. We do this all the time. We would rather someone who speaks the language, however if the person has connections in the markets we are expanding into, we really couldn't care less. And in the show, Emily brings more than her fair share of clients in.

@@KF-wg2si or, better yet, just have gay and poc characters who aren't defined by stereotypes based off a single characteristic... Emily could be gay. They could all be gay. They could all be Black. Straight and white literally has no reason to be the default in media. There are so many better options to fixing this issue than "just make the cast all white and characters all straight" - have someone come out of the closet. Give the coworker a meaningful character arc. Have future characters they're planning on introducing just be poc instead of white people - same characters, different race, almost assuredly the same story that would have been told anyway but now you have a cast of characters which actually represent the city which the show is trying to depict. It's not hard.
