Simon Helberg was so good in this small, but memorable role. As most people, I know him best from that awful sitcom The Big Bang Theory where he played a major creep. But he is such a talented actor. When he is lost for words at the end and says "Just look at that parking lot" it was such a brilliant comedic moment. To the junior rabbi's credit, he's the only one out of the three rabbis Larry saw who was actually enthusiastic about talking to him and genuinely tried to help him.

"...somebody who isn't familiar with these autos, and such." lol, truly a masterpiece of an homage to the inner workings of the Jewish mind.

The problem is that Larry kept seeking a framework to try to understand life; this left him blind to many troubles coming his way. The key is to focus on your agency or what you can do in the moment rather than trying to understand everything before undertaking any action.

This film is the best advertisement for Stoicism I've ever seen. In the alternative happy ending he just reads Meditations and moves on with his life lol.

It's true in any religion. The clergy will only give you platitudes with zero nuance

That's not true. There are great and insightful Rabbis and there are a lot of others.

I think the joke here is that he's the junior rabbi so he doesn't have any wisdom or good advice to give.
