So relieved your shocking announcement was only the fact you had DNF'd a book. With everything going on, I was worried you were announcing a need to abandon your channel. You're one of my very favorite Booktubers, Daniel. I really enjoyed hearing about your process in what book you choose to read as a next book. My process is very similar. I like to change-it-up to prevent from becoming bored and keeping a certain reading momentum.

Yes, I also think in terms of reading momentum. Funny that. It's not like I will grind to a halt ever, but the hobby feeds the hobby.

You had me scared there for a minute! Just a DNF! Hilarious seeing you rant about this book! "Shiny black outlet!" "Snaking the charger!" Ha Ha Ha!!! BTW, I read Knife and LOVED it. Sure you will too!

I used to feel like you, Daniel. Very reluctant to DNF a book. But now that I'm 65, I will chuck aside a book in a heartbeat at the first (or possibly second) sighting of an inept sentence. Life is simply too damn short and I have a lot of other books I want to get to. Loved your review of this unnamed mess. Oh, and I never believe a 4.45 rating (or whatever) on GoodReads of a recent book. Too many people throw 5 star ratings at junk. Just one of my many pet peeves.

I hear you about inflated ratings. I give the cast majority of things I read 4 stars on Goodreads. I don't imagine I'm helping anyone!

I agree - dnf almost immediately if the writing isn’t up to my expectations - love this post - soooo real and hilarious 😂

I'm sorry you had a maddening experience with a book, but I sure enjoyed your reaction. In fact, I watched I had to watch that portion of the video several times 😂

I couldn’t help myself and had to figure it out 😂Does the title start with P and the author’s surname start with L?

Yes. It does.

If I had been making a truly shocking announcement, you might have heard it first in the family WhatsApp group.

Ah! I know what book you are talking only because I DNF’d it as well!!!! I chose it because it fit a prompt for a library reading challenge I was doing. I felt the exact same way as what you are describing, although I don’t know if I even made it as far as you did into the book 😂. I also felt very mislead by the hype and the reviews as well!

Even if we're not talking about the same book, I appreciate the shared experience.

I am truly curious.

I don't think I did a great job of keeping it secret. It's not a significant book, but it was a quite widely-reviewed debut genre work. I just couldn't bring myself to get through it.

Your non-DNF policy is even more extreme than mine. I will occasionally dnf after a couple of pages but hardly ever more than that, and usually because of mood, although I tried to read Dark Matter recently and stopped as soon as someone who just won a noble prize or something was telling the main character he was ten times smarter than anyone at the university 😂 The main problem here is you did a book haul without us, that is poor form.

Apologies, it was late on a Friday afternoon and we had guests. I couldn't tell everyone to keep quiet while I showed Aaron all my new books. I'm not saying I didn't consider it...

I left enough clues. I'm sure there are others who read the whole book who had a different experience.
