Because things are going to get more expensive then what some people will be able to afford and this is the inevitable outcome. Instead of preventing what made this person so desperate that they'd actually steal from Tesco's its much easier to just turn a blind eye too it, cheaper too. @@euboy6 No, but he needs to face some consequences. Community service could be appropriate, or a drug treatment order if this is motivated by addiction. The real point is so many are shoplifting because they know there's little chance of any repercussions at all.
