@@dan9471 I am very much a advocate of getting involved if it was a robber in the street attacking a member of the public. in the case of a large multi billion company, no employee should be doing this and further to this Tesco would give all staff strict instructions not to chase shop lifters out of the store in case of injury to the staff member. I don't doubt senior managers have been to this store and issued warning that this sort of thing is not to happen again

They steal household goods like soap, razors, butter and packs of bacon because they're easier to steal than more expensive goods like alcohol. They then approach members of the public asking if they want to buy any of them for a very low price. They then use that money to buy drugs and alcohol.

The bike was taken so he couldn't just ride away, they kept trying to get the shoplifter to let go of the items that were taken from the store without payment.

There has been a few cases of shoplifting in my local and security have said they're not actually allowed to touch them and a lot of the time they just let them go. The company doesn't tend to care until the loss is over a certain value, they said. How much of this is true I don't know.

They didn't steal the bike - they just moved it in order to prevent escape. Theft requires an "intention to permanently deprive" - which was not apparent here. I would say the force was reasonable here. There were no kicks or punches, and it seemed apparent that the force was used to stop him taking items.

I work for Tesco and we are told not to get involved. Just makes mental notes time , dress of suspects etc. Then pass that on to management and police. Sadly those three will proably lose their jobs. It is not right and I am with the employees here.
