[spoilers] I love this game to bits. My heart sank when I finally went back inside the cabin to nap. The credits rolled and I closed the game knowing it's over. 13 hours of gameplay later, and I've discovered pretty much everything there is to discover, enjoyed every conversation there is to enjoy. The music is one of the most memorable indie game soundtracks for me. I find myself humming the main theme while cleaning the house, knowing that somewhere, out there, on an island far far away... ...a worried camper finally got back their lost permit, ...an artist finally became proud of their work, ...a college student can finally pay off their debt, ...and a lovely little bird finally got to greet her mother hello. Though, a certain orange fox is taking an awfully long time emailing that photo of her atop the mountain, haha! No worries, Hawk Peak isn't known for it's reception, that's for sure. This game left a little void in my heart. But I'm glad knowing these experiences will stay with me forever. Time to wipe my tears, and move onward!

I finally got around to playing this game recently, and the soundtrack has ultimately become one of my favorites of all time. So much about it just speaks to me, both stylistically and emotionally. After finishing the game, I visited your bandcamp and noticed all the daily arrangement albums you've put out, and it inspired me to decide on doing something similar. I've struggled for a while to finish my own music, so it sounded like giving myself the challenge of making something everyday for a month and putting it all out there would help me a lot. Well, fast forward to the end of the month, and I've stuck with it the whole time. I've improved so much, and TWO different people who have heard my work approached me about making music for their games (One of them, I happened to be listening to 'A Short Flight' right as I received the message asking if I wanted to be hired, and with that perfect timing and combination of emotions, I couldn't help but cry, hahaha) I just wanted to thank you for creating something that is so incredibly beautiful and inspiring, and also potentially giving me a future as a VGM composer (something I've dreamed of for years) Thank you so, so much

I played A Short Hike a couple days ago, and it's still on my mind. It made me feel so warm and happy! I couldn't stop smiling while playing it. The rate of progression was always smooth and satisfying, the world was vibrant and colorful, and the music melded from one track to another beautifully as I hiked higher and higher. Even how the text bubbles were split in an emotive manner rather than full sentences added a special sort of charm to dialogue. It wasn't a short hike for me because I couldn't stop exploring (still need to find a few more fish!), but by the time I reached the top, I cried in a really good, cathartic way. Thanks for being part of bringing such a lovely, memorable game to my world.

a year ago I watched a video by Scruffy about this game and its sound design, decided to take a look at its steam page, saw it was on sale (good timing) and bought it the morning after just to make sure I really wanted it, played it start to finish, explored the beaches, forests, cliffsides, and oceans, looked at damn near every nook and cranny on the island, made it to the peak in due time... and cried. hard. glided down and around the map, while crying, made it back to the cabin, hit sleep, and cried some more. a year later, today, I saw another video about its sound design, decided to play it again since I never uninstalled it (I uninstall most of my games when I get bored of them to save on space), started from a new game and nearly speedran it, but even with the quick play I did, it was still an experience just like the first time and I could still remember all the little things I did before, made it to the peak again, cried again, glided down the map again, went to sleep again, and cried again. this game is not a game, it's... it's so much more than a game, it's an experience, it's a feeling, it's a moment in time trapped in a bottle for you to look into over and over again, it's just so beautiful. the music around the game is something that makes the whole thing so much more intense, it's like the final piece of its puzzle, but even more incredible is when the music ISN'T there, the music is so meaningful that when it stops, when the door to the cabin closes and all you're left with is silence, it hits so much harder than anything deserves the right to, and I'm 100% certain that every time I play this game in the future, no matter how many times or how long its been, I will ALWAYS cry for it, for the music, for the dialogue, for the way the music and lack of music are so integral to the emotions the game invokes, I will never not cry for it all

Absolutely LOVE this game. It’s one of my favorites ever :3 it’s so relaxing, just running around collecting feathers, fishing, and climbing around. The characters r rlly fun and I enjoy their dialogue, I like how simple the story is but how it still has an impact too. At first you think it’s “oh, city girl experiences countryside and eventually enjoys it”. I mean- the main premise is climbing a giant mountain to get phone reception 😹 but, I like that there’s an actual reason, and how Claire isn’t just some phone addict teen and stuff. She actually enjoys her hike and people she met along the way and has fun. When you get to the top of the mountain and make you call, you can also glide allll the way back down. ✨that✨ is my favorite part of the game. Not just because it’s satisfying to watch, but because I think it’s also a satisfying ending. You’re looking back over all the progress you’ve made and get to point out “oh- that’s where I got my 1st feather!” And stuff. I think the track that plays also is SUPPER good. It rlly adds to the feeling of accomplishment you get. Speaking of the music, I love the entire soundtrack smmm. It’s so nice and I swear it gives me the best luck too. I’ll just be listening to it and my day gets 10x better. I also love the art style. I think it’s rlly cool how u can change the amount of pixels too :] I haven’t seen that in a game before (though that might be a common thing that I just don’t know?). Honestly, this was just an excuse to ramble about my favorite game 😹 thank you for the incredible music Mark!!

After initially finishing A Short Hike, I spent a few mornings doing minimum-feather runs. What this meant was attempting to reach Hawk Peak with 5 feathers, then 3, and so forth. At 2 feathers, some bits became difficult to climb (hardest being a cliff near the first hot spring), which I thought was impossible with only 1 feather. Fast forward to the evening, I couldn't resist playing more and started the 1-feather run. I found out that you can run halfway up the hot spring cliff, which made it possible to get on top. Upon reaching Hawk Peak, I cried tears of joy.. Thank you adamgryu and Mark Sparling, this game rocks!

Okay long read, but, I came to listen because my little brothers been gushing about this game and it’s music And then I watched scruffys video about it And here I am And I am impressed beyond words and full of nostalgia though I’ve never played this But what I think it’s doing is There’s a touch of ghibli here Not Joe hisaishi but You’re own version of it And you can tell that these beautiful and simple songs were all written with much love and the intention of immersing you within this sweet little world, calling you in to play But also reminding you of something Once you were this carefree Racing with your friends Hunting for treasure Collecting little shells Going on a short hike I’ve not actually played the game myself But from the snippets I’ve watched from my brothers play through (He’s done now but he still goes back) I can remember the area where these songs played What was happening And I can’t even pick a favorite Each time I think, oh I love this one! Then the next track starts and yeah But the one that sparks the most joy is probably beach buds or somewhere in the woods Both, both is good But, amazing work, and I think; though you may not have reached ghibli You’ve found a little haven of your own And done some crazy magic with the music in the game So great work, man And keep it up

thank you so much for this amazing soundtrack- it really does fit perfectly and enhance the whole game. i'd just also like to share a specific experience that i had with it. i started off by not seeing aunt may and ended up just wandering out into the ocean. i explored the few islands very close to the starting shore and found the island with the silver feather (that i did not know was there yet) and i swear i tried to get up that thing for a solid ten minutes and did end up giving up but the mystery of what was at the top almost gave it more of an open ended experience than it already was; almost similar to botw. but then, i stumbled across the island with the large wind geyser. the bird on the island- who was the first npc that i talked to- promptly followed his advice and flew into the gyser. at that time everything hit all at once, the music (which was somewhere in the woods flight mix and has since become my favorite song), the view of the island (before this it was almost entirely water) and then just the feeling of freedom; just flying through the air and taking it all in. again thank you, the experience would not have been as magical without the music to this beautiful game.

warning: spoilers for those that haven't finished the game yet "hello" makes me cry because of the phone call scene. it was weird when i played through that scene because my mom was also literally in the hospital for already a month and she had to get a surgery too. i was all alone in the house that time and couldn't help but cry. it was too big of a coincidence. "hello" is absolutely touching, thank you!

There's a clear Zelda vibe to this game. Some parts of the soundtrack as well.

Pokušaću u par reči da opišem svaku pesmu: Beach Buds - opuštajuća muzika za odmor Somewhere In The Woods - optimistični udarac :D See You At The Top - optimistična muzika za rad Boat Buds - muzika za festivale i veselja :) Snow, Lots of Snow - uzdizanje i nada Hello? - idemo na spavanje.... A Short Flight - Buđenje! :D Nap Time - zevanje :O Race Me! - optimistično trčanje na posao :D (Long Hike) - sve to + radosnije i još više optimizma :D Pozdrav svima!

thanks! I've got a couple things on the go. I'm doing music and sound for a super cute Roblox game called Adopt Me! Nothing else I can really share right now, but hopefully some time this year!
