I'm curious to know under what pretext the residents were removed in 1913? I love the anecdote about Tom Campbell getting a ten story variance. I wonder if the fact it had been on reserve lands factored into that.

In the first decade and a bit of the 20th Century, Vancouver Businessmen wanted the Reserve cleared of the First Nation having a settlement there because it did not fit their vision for Vancouver and its future. A local Magistrate W.O Alexander and the Province's Attorney-General Bowser met with the First Nation community from the Reserve and offered them cash to move. Apparently, the Catholic Church also was supportive as the community members would be closer to "Catholic Oversight" if they were on Squamish Reserves further north. You can read more about this beginning on page 13 of Jean Barman's excellent article - "Erasing Indigenous Indigeneity in Vancouver" here ojs.library.ubc.ca/index.php/bcstudies/article/view/626
