What many people around the world do not know is that this coastline is exactly the same as this video for 1500 km north of this island all the way to Anchorage Alaska, with almost NO population the entire way. It is truly one of the last almost untouched wild places on earth, accessible by a few remote roads and summer ferries and cruise ships. Fortunately a huge oil shipping port wanted by Alberta province right in the middle of it at the town of Prince Rupert has been temporarily dis-allowed by Prime Minister Trudeau, but there is danger it may be revived if he loses power in the future (I am not much of a fan of Trudeau, but I supported him fully on this issue).

The language of course is English (and some Native People's languages they know) so what 18 Rabbit is referring to is the VanIsle lifestyle which is quaint and modest escapism for most people. The southeast part of the island around Victoria, Duncan and Nanaimo (nan-eye-mo) is populated with about a half million people along 100 km of shoreline, beyond that the people really thin out. Beware of some really, really, kooky people in and around Nanaimo, the only real blight on this otherwise wonderful place.
