I'm guessing KZbin suggested this video cos I'm a dog owner near Ipswich. Have to say it kept me entertained, occasionally accidentally ("Who's this lady?"...umm, that's Thomas Wolsey I believe! 😆) but mostly because it was interesting to see how you see Ipswich. The big concrete block used to be a malting. Floor after floor of malt in its various stages. The new flats just along from it are known as The Winerack, now officially, as the shell was constructed then the builder went bust and it was abandoned for some time. Looked like a giant wine rack. 🤷 That's Ipswich for you!

My hometown of the last 5 years or so! Like any town its size, Ipswich has its share of problems; underfunding of local services (including youth services), an ailing high street etc, but the people around here are far too quick to put the town down. Parts of it are historic and beautiful, there's an ever expanding and thriving artistic community, and you don't have to go far out of the town to find gorgeous scenery. Thanks for stopping in and giving a fresh perspective!

Hi,first time I've caught your videos. I live in Ipswich and my daughter works at the pizza place next to where you bought your fish and chips on the waterfront. The very large concrete buildings you said look like a prison are actually for grain ,wheat etc for loading the boats to take away. As we live in a agricultural area. Alot of the waterfront has been done up with apartments ships restaurants and a university but as with the grey buildings it still has alot to do. Hope you return when the weather is kinder.

While in the town centre, did you look up, I ask because at ground level everything looks modern but if you look up, the higher floors of many town centre buildings still have ancient exteriors. If you find yourself in Suffolk again there are loads of other places worth visiting but the highlights (all in my estimation all superior to Ipswich unless you like the waterfront) are probably Lavenham (with lots of 16th century houses), Bury St Edmunds (the second-biggest town, with a Cathedral, the Abby Gardens and ruins, a park which is much, much nicer than Christchurch, Bury feels much less crowded and has at least as much historic significance as Ipswich), as well as Framlingham and Orford for their intact castles.
@geoffpoole4832 жыл бұрын
Excellent tip about looking above the ground floor. Agree with everything you've written. The coast between Aldeburgh and Southwold is worth visiting. Orford Island is now owned/run by the National Trust and is open to the public.
@MetalChick842 жыл бұрын
Those other places are definitely much nicer than Ipswich in my opinion. Especially Orford and Framlingham 👍🏻 I've lived in Ipswich since 1994 and it's honestly not much to write home about. Woodbridge is also nicer.

Ipswich is the home of a legendary Marshall guitar amplifier factory that opened in 1968 and operated there for many years. Jimi Hendrix used amps made in that factory. Welcome to my home town. Soooo much history behind Ipswich. Run down in areas but people don’t realise or appreciate the history behind this town. The statue was Thomas Wolsey (worth a read up). Christchurch park has so much history behind it also and was owned by Lord Fonnereau. The street you were on at 14:10, at the bottom is a pub called the spread eagle, my auntie used to run this pub several years ago. It’s one of the oldest pubs in Ipswich and dates back over 500 years. Beneath Ipswich is a network of tunnels also that were used many years ago for smugglers from the docks
