A-Sides Interview: Ian Astbury of The Cult Discusses New Album, Paris Attacks, Etc. (2-25-2016)

Ian Astbury is an English rock musician and songwriter best known as the lead vocalist for the rock band The Cult. THE CULT announces “Alive in the Hidden City” U.S. tour dates. The live shows will kick off February 5th at the Tower Theater in Los Angeles, CA to coincide with the release of their newest CD “HIDDEN CITY” in stores February 5th. Limited seating at the Tower Theater, Los Angeles, the Gramercy Theater and Music Hall of Williamsburg, New York! More dates to be announced soon! It is The Cult’s first album in three years and their 10th studio album. “Hidden City” -­‐ a brutal and beautiful masterpiece -­‐ is the third and final part of their critically acclaimed trilogy that began with 2007’s “Born Into This” and was followed by 2012’s “Choice of Weapon.” “Hidden City” is currently available for pre purchase on all music sites.

This informal series focuses on the artist making art in a low-threatening, extremely informal (sometime humorous) way. Ian is seriously intelligent and cultured. He is a deep and intense guy. His lyrics on the 'Ceremony' album are among his best. I love his Woodstock vibe. Their 1994 album is very different and highly influenced by U2 from that time. The songs and that album kick ass!
