Johnny Marr was right when he said that Morrissey is the most hilarious man in the world. He has such a unique, intelligent, sarcastic sense of humour that he doesn't show quite often, which is certainly a shame. I actually laughed more with his interview that with any comedy movie, and i don't think his opaque, funny character is really appreciated

I loved The Smiths, I bought all the records and saw them at Derby Assembly Rooms, when Whistle Test filmed it. They were magnificent. Since he went solo, he's crawled so far up his own ring piece that he's become unbearable. He sits in LA, in his ivory tower, pontificating his bile to his sycophantic followers and they lap it up like ambrosia. I can't listen to The Smiths these days. Thankfully, the real genius behind the band, Johnny Marr, has a decent "ex Smiths" body of work for me to still appreciate the thing that attracted me to the band in the first place. The music.

I was just watching a documentary about Lemmy from Motorhead before I watched this.. and I can't exactly put my finger on it, but Lemmy and Morrissey are exact opposites, yet they made THEMSELVES into Icons in the music industry by being honest, loyal to the fans of their music and never once selling out. They are both honest (was in Lemmys case RIP) .. Not many Stars of today do things their way.. but these two did.

@bobdavis4848
@bobdavis4848 Жыл бұрын
This big Morrissey fan is confused. He said "I miss British people" and later "I don't like people, to be honest." When the great Morrissey said he doesn’t want to be called Steven, it was the perfect time for the host to ask him why then it was OK for the great Sandie Shaw to release her song “Steven (You Don’t Eat Meat.)” Why wasn’t the host educated enough to do so? Twice I bought “You are the Quarry” and twice It wouldn’t play on any of my CD players. Perhaps that British pressing the host held was different, but I haven’t found one here in California.
@Music-tg5is
@Music-tg5is Жыл бұрын
Simple! He doesn't like people (neither do I). But, if he has to be around them conversing, then he'd prefer they be British like himself (rather than American, where he lives most of the time). Since at least then, they would have more in common culturally. As to why he then chooses to live in a place like America, it likely gives him more excuses not to go out and socialise with others. Whereas, if he lived in Britain, where he knows a lot more people/family, etc. He'd face more pressure to meet up or attend family functions, etc. It's basically, how unsociable introverted personalities are.
@bobdavis4848
@bobdavis4848 Жыл бұрын
@@Music-tg5is Thanks, your explanations make sense. I was puzzled because I tend to be a very literal thinker so I didn't know why he didn't add "except for British" near the end. Although now thinking about it, I suppose doing so would have led some to accuse him of being racist, and he doesn't need any more of that. But I don't think preferring to be around a certain type of people makes someone racist against the others, not intentionally anyway. I'm still wondering about the Sandie song and defective CDs issue, though. Have a nice day.

The second Morrissey opens his mouth, the world is in the presence of a human on another level. The lens through which Morrissey is able to read (in milliseconds) the hypocrisy of the poor humour offered up by Jonathan Ross, is evident. The incongruence on Morrisey's face, at every bad taste joke (i.e. the incessant jokes Ross makes about vegetarianism and his truly cringeworthy version of 'pop' interviewing that we had to endure during this 90's) is handled with aplomb. Above all, it is his humility (I.e. his embarrassment that he must 'pity' Ross so many times in a row during his pitiful questions) that makes Morrissey so obviously above Jonathan Ross in this interview.
