Maybe the ai homing thing is a result of the mod trying to simulate the senario this fleet is intercepting ur escape from the last engagement.

Magz, I believe you said that you were running a new updated version of this mod. It might very well be that when you took out the Han last session that someone got a report off and as you are still "In the area" this is a response force out to "Fix Our Problem". So part of the upgrade may be assets in close proximity of a battle come to the aid of the victim by being the next group to make contact with the player's Submarine.

I was wondering if that second trawler in the second scenario was a Romeo - the signatures are very similar. As a general rule, if there are no enemy surface contacts, likely there are no aircraft too, and it's safe to do a radar popup.

How is it that the Romeo didn't hear your torpedo detonating on the Ming and just kept plodding along as if nothing was happening? Even if it couldn't hear the Collins, surely it would be all hands action stations with the first explosion and the sound of the Ming breaking up. Is it just derpy AI or am I missing something?

Nice hunting. But have you considered using your periscope for identification of surface vessels in silent running? It woud make the process of I'd ships much easier.

Yes and no, it comes with it's downsides. A periscope is more than able to be detected by radar when you use it so using it can and absolutely will give away your exact location. As such it's usage is somewhat situational in modern submarine combat and has a rather high risk/reward compared to simply passively IDing the target.

Well considering the battery life on a Collins class is about 70 hours of full operation it wouldnt really matter if it did have one considering how long the missions last. Main differences are in speed, DE boats are faster on the surface than submerged, noise output is also more variable. Nukes always have an ambient minimum that doesnt vary much between fully cold and running slow (5 knots), DE boats have a slighly larger noise drop when they go dead cold and silent.
