This is my exact problem right now: I am doing too many things and not seeing as much progress as I would like. The dilemma is getting myself to stop when I have created the habit, I enjoy the activities, and I don't want to stop before finishing. I find myself worrying that I will miss some crucial information if I stop now. Of course, that doesn't make sense when some of the information is covered in several of the resources. I think I just need to let some of it go so I can focus and use my limited time more wisely. Thank you for the video.

Spanish - I speak to a tutor/teacher in Spanish once a week. Mostly we just chat, but sometimes we do grammar and I'm reading Emma with her at the moment. She says I'm advanced in listening as she doesn't have to adjust her speech much for me, but intermediate otherwise. I've just started listening to booktubers from Spain and have picked up new vocabulary that way. I still make a lot of errors when speaking. I've read the first three Harry Potter books and a couple Wizard of Oz books in the past. Adult books written in Spanish that I haven't read before are still intimidating. I did read the first page of House of Spirits yesterday. I should probably work on my productive skills such as writing more to improve my grammar. French - I studied this for 2 years when I was younger. Then, I had a friend whose husband only spoke French. I've taken classes at Alliance Française off and on over the years but it's been a while. I've read/listened to a few novels in French, but it's been on the back burner for the last few years so that I could focus on Spanish and/or Japanese. Currently, I'm not doing much other than French Duolingo to get back into it. I test out of each skill. I've been looking for some French speaking youtubers lately. I'd like to get back to reading in French and should look for some podcasts. Japanese - Most recently, I've taken a kanji class (the second of three classes) but dropped out when the pandemic started. I haven't been able to concentrate on learning Japanese at all lately for various reasons. I have watched a little bit of Japanese shows without English subtitles if I've seen them before. However, it's not always possible to turn them off. Interestingly, I've found that learning to write words in Kanji has improved my listening skills. I need to figure out how to continue with Japanese until I can start classes again albeit at a less intense pace. I'm not sure what to do honestly. I've dabbled in some other languages such as Portuguese or Dutch but these are my main languages at the moment.

Interesting topic and suggestions. Right now I am reading, watching KZbin content, and reviewing my own personally made flashcards (which have only pictures, and not translations). Making lot of flashcards with pictures and sound files during the lock down time really boosted my comprehension in Spanish in general. And my words were chosen from the graded readers I use, and based on frequency. I feel I turned my Spanish up a level. Now comes the long intermediate plateau, I guess. Greetings from South Africa

This was a great video. It really made me think about what I’m doing. I have a 2 hour lesson per week with a tutor, I read books, I read El País and I watch a lot of series in Spanish. You’ve kind of pushed me into an idea I’ve had: to write down dialogue from series and to do more intensive reading to improve the quality of my extensive watching, listening and reading. I’m going out right now to buy a notebook. On the first page I’m going to write those 2 great quotes.

Hey Robin, new fan here. As soon as I found your channel I fell in love. Your content is so valuable but the cherry on top is your lovable, kind and positive energy. I'm learning my husband's language Czech so I can connect and speak with his family. You are so right about design vs default. I've changed my approach and learning techniques multiple times to find what works best and stays fun. I've only watched a handful of your videos so far but they have been so very helpful! Loved finding Notion and your tracking sheets. I also looove to read. I completely understand your passion. Thank you for your videos, you're making a difference. :) Čau!

Thank you for bringing up this topic. It helped me to visualize my problems in learning. I knew them, but putting then on paper triggered me to change the way I study. I find it useful to learn vocab by listening to songs, so I’m going to change the way I learn vocab to get more out of it. “Write less but better” suits me🙂 I’m lazy about writing but if I do, I always try to write using difficult grammar to get comfortable with it. I think I’ll add one more thing: after teacher check my writing I’ll retell it to myself. Being input learner means getting comfortable with grammar, vocab you learn after you get speaking level very fast. At least it works for me.

Once again, a very timely topic! Based on some things you've been saying, just over the last 3 days, I revamped my plan for studying. I stopped my Skype class although I really like my teacher in order to add more time for beginner resources. I'd share the plan, but it's 4 pages in Excel because it includes my whole life! Excellent topic! Thank you again!!!

Thank you for a great video! I am learning three languages at the moment. 1) Polish (B1+ level). It is difficult indeed to decide what to concentrate on, because there are so many different options. - My pronunciation has been awful. So, I have started learning Polish phonetics with a good teacher by Skype. - I have used ReadLang for reading newspaper articles. It is a great tool, because it automatically makes flashcards out of those expressions and words that you have clicked, to get their translation. However, in the near future, I would like to concentrate on such texts that improve my professional vocabulary. - I try to speak only Polish with my Polish friends (I live in Warsaw). 2) Croatian (B1 level). I want to keep the current level, by reviewing Anki cards that I have made on the basis of Assimil course and "Word of the Day" (croatian101). At weekends, I read a little bit of one of my favorite books that I have earlier read in other languages. 3) Turkish (A1). I have too much material available, and some of them are very boring, so I need to make some choices. I have two italki teachers, with whom I have lessons twice every three weeks. I do agree with you that when you build up the vocabulary and improve your listening skills, it would be too much to have private lessons three times a week, but it is good to get some feedback from native teachers already at this level. Recently, I wrote a story of my own in Turkish. One teacher helped me to pronounce my sentences right. Now, I am learning the story by heart, and I will try to tell it to my second teacher, without looking into my papers. I hope this new method will boost my speaking skills.
