2:46 I think it should be mentioned that the monitor supports "variable refresh rate" as a concept both via HDMI ("HDMI VRR") and via DisplayPort ("DisplayPort Adaptive Sync"). It is even certified by NVIDIA as "G-Sync Compatible (40-240Hz via DisplayPort)". Curiously it has no FreeSync certification by AMD (yet?), even though RTINGS reports that it is supported. So as a PC user the only difference is that via DP the computer won't detect the monitor if the monitor is turned off - at least it's like that on my system.
@TaylorBrauer6 ай бұрын
That's a good point. VRR is supported for both. Dell states that FreeSync Premium Pro isn't compatible but there's no mention of the lower tiers which is why basic FreeSync works. It's pretty confusing, ngl.

Great video. Do you know if the input lag is the same in the more color accurate standard mode and you wouldn't need to be in game mode preset to get the fastest? Also it seems like having Dolby vision game or bright is the brightest overall in hdr even tho the calibration cuts out at 500 nits vs about 1000 in peak 1000? Doesn't seem to matter if the content supports Dolby vision or not, it looks alot brighter on everything vs the other modes. Is something off in that regard?
@TaylorBrauer5 ай бұрын
Since this is OLED the response time is consistent for the hertz you set on the monitor. So 60hz has a slower response time and 240hz has a faster response time. Response times don’t differ between color profiles. If you’re used to an IPS screen having overdrive settings there’s none of that on OLEDs. You’re spot on with Dolby Vision. It’s an overall brighter picture. Having DV off and using the HDR profiles will give you more dynamic range at the cost of less overall brightness.

My Home Theater JVC projector automatically switches between HDR and SDR depending on the content/movie that I play. For example, 4K Ultra HD movies mostly come in HDR, so my projector automatically switches to HDR mode. But if I watch Blu-Ray 1080p movies, my projector switches to SDR automatically. This is the first computer monitor that I have which supports HDR & Dolby Vision. I'm not sure how the Windows OS and Windows applications handle HDR versus SDR. Does Windows automatically switch between HDR and SDR depending on the application being used? For example, when using applications that are not games (such as Word, Excel, email, browser, etc.), do you use SDR or HDR? In Windows Settings, do you have to manually toggle the Settings > System > Display > Use HDR On or Off depending on what application you are using? Or do you just leave Settimgs > System > Display > Use HDR at "On" all the time, so you're always using HDR? Or does Windows switch between HDR and SDR depending on the application being used?
@TaylorBrauer4 ай бұрын
Windows is notoriously terrible at handling HDR in a way that's practical. I've found that I've had to manually turn in off and on whenever I want to switch between SDR and HDR. There's an Auto-hdr setting in the display settings, but I haven't noticed it making any difference.

Not necessarily. Check your display settings to see if HDR is always enabled and if it is you'll want to change that.

when im in hdr true black my peak brightness is 1020 instead of 426 like yours while in the same mode, why is that? also it says the hdr certification is not found so id like to know why that is and if it matters, thank you
@TaylorBrauerАй бұрын
It seems Windows sometimes doesn't report nits reliably. So, I wouldn't take that reading too seriously. As for HDR certification, I'm not really sure what that means. The HDR works which is certificaiton enough for me. I'd recommend to keep trying different settings of HDR and find the one that looks best and not read into the numbers too much.

@@minecraftprovie5076 I’m not sure on the discrepancy you experienced but check your graphics drivers and firmware. HDR will need to be on for HDR content. Windows won’t auto detect HDR content in SDR.

@@TaylorBrauer got newest graphic drivers already and also tried to update firmware (it said I have the latest). I just put it on 1000 like everybody recommended. Because 2500 is just too bright. Great question. You can either have Smart HDR on or Dolby Vision on but not both. What you're experiencing is totally normal regardless of which cable or port you use. Think of Dolby Vision as an additional HDR setting outside of Smart HDR.
