Finally someone is giving API some competition, hopefully it'll bring the price down for the test kits. I payed $24 a few years ago for API's test kit and seen the other day that they sell them close to $40 now, that's crazy for something that doesn't get used often and expires a year or so after purchase so you never get a full use out of them.

I really like Fritz so I am going to check this out. I am running low in test strips which I have checked against the api liquid test and the results were the same. I do believe it’s because I keep the cap on my strips and read the results at the correct time. Like I said I really like Fritz and I need to restock tests and the liquid does last longer than strips. Thanks for doing the review.

This is functionally the same, and while the wide range pH is a nice improvement I certainly wouldn't replace an API kit just for that. I'd rather buy from fritz, though, so when I need another kit I'll probably buy one of these.

As it stands, how is this different from API other than a single pH test (which is awesome!) API prints drops on the bottle as well. I mean. For sure wide range pH is awesome, but otherwise it seems exactly like API otherwise.

the ph test only being a SINGLE test is really helpful. having ONE chart though is nice... if you are doing a speed run on many tanks, being able to look at a single chart is helpful. i made a test kit stand out of a block of wood, drilled holes and added pegs. ONE it super helps with just gathering all the water. two, it can hold the booklet. on amazon the plastic holders were flimsy, broke, etc, which is what spurred me to make one. them having the foam stand is a fantastic touch. the plastic holders don't do anything more than that, hold a few tubes. (a custom stand might have places to hold the caps, booklet, or pegs to allow tubes to dry. after using my prototypes i have to say that this is wildly useful!) fritz - *include an overall chart as well!!* that way you can have the best of both worlds. i would switch companies if they had that. i want to see everything at once, leave the booklet in place as i work through the tubes and reagents.

I am due to replenish my saltwater test kit and I think I will give this a try. If it works for me, it will be great to only have to purchase one kit for both fresh and saltwater. Being that both saltwater and freshwater are chemically different, I dont understand how the kit could accurately test in both solutions in one kit but that is out of my realm of knowledge. Thanks for bringing it to our attention as I hadn't heard of Fritz's liquid test kit yet.

Hey Jason. Long time viewer of your live streams (replays). You do a great job. Been in the hobby for 31 years. Currently have 3 aquariums. 3 weeks ago did a water change on 2 (55 & 58). One (58) has rainbows & silver dollars. The other (55) has rainbows & pearl gouramis. Both have one Rafael cat. I am on well water. Two days after water change, in less than 48 hours all 7 rainbows in the 55 died. The gouramis & cat were fine and still are. All fish in the 58 were fine. My water parameters in both tanks are the same as always- Ammonia- 0 Nitrite- 0 Nitrate-30 Hardness- 300 Chlorine- 0 KH- 20 PH- 6.2 I have no idea what happen. No visible problems. Lost 2 first 24 hours. Added salt. And lost 5 more next day. Question- Do you know of a disease, parasite, or other that would suddenly affect “regular” fish but not have an impact whatsoever on labyrinth (gouramis) or catfish? I have no idea what happened. And all other fish in both tanks were fine and still are. Thanks and keep up the good work
@PrimeTimeAquatics6 ай бұрын
I’ve had that happen to me before as well. Rainbows have a higher oxygen demand compared to the other fish in the tank. My guess is there may have been something in the water that reduced O2 for a time. Possibly some type of chemical?

Hey professor, great video as always. Can I ask for your advice yet again? 😂 I’m having trouble getting my hillstream loaches to eat wafers. I grew a whole bunch of algae on the back and sides of my tank in anticipation of picking them up but it’s running low and they seem to timid too compete with my guppies over it. I tried feeding at lights out but it didn’t seem to make much of a difference. The female guppies are just voracious. They even bully my male gourami.

Maybe try feeding a floating food or flake at the same time as something sinking for the loaches?

Hello! If I’m starting my first ever aquarium (tank is 6 gallon, freshwater with plants and a betta) do you suggest I try this test kit or the API? Since I still need to cycle and I’d be testing pretty frequently, I think the API might be worth the cost (because I’d use most/all of the contents before the expiration date) because it’s been the industry standard. Or do you think I should give Fritz a chance? Thanks!
