The shape of the pear tree very elegant like a nature Bonsai. Did you prune it yearly?

Are none of the escaping flying insects bad pests when you open the lid?
@Sowbriety Жыл бұрын
Well flies and gnats can certainly be a pest but these are not the pests fruit growers are trying to target for this video. Most of the targeted pests here are going to be larvae or eggs that are laid inside the fruit by insects like your plum curculio. Removing the chance for the larvae hatching from fallen fruit, eating its way out, and then burrowing in the ground for next year stops the cycle.

@@Sowbriety Thanks Christina. I had thought maybe some of the larvae and eggs can hatch into something that could fly away.

@@Sowbriety How do you dispose of what is left in the garbage can and can you be certain that the larvae and eggs are dead?
@Sowbriety Жыл бұрын
@@stevetracy437 good question but you have to remember a lot of the pests are not migratory which means most of these pests are going to need to hibernate over winter somewhere whether in their food source or close to it in debris or directly in ground once hatched. Even if the pests inside were by chance capable of flying away, the hot days spent in that garbage can are going to kill whatever is inside there.

@@stevetracy437 I would wait and dispose of it after the collected fruit has had enough time to turn into compost
