In today's video, Chuck shows how to make a simple pouch with a flap. He starts with a pouch that doesn't require any stitching and then shows how you can refine the pattern to add a snap and then one step further by making a hand-stitched pouch with a snap closure. My dad recently passed away and he loved to work leather, but I never learned how and I want to do that to honor dad. Chuck, I love your energy and excitement! I was just thinking my first project would be a pouch to hold my Allen wrenches and you just set me on my path. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. I think I will make 3, one to learn and 2 more for the wrenches. Might look at adding a bit of stamping for identification. Nervous but really excited.

@@WeaverLeatherSupply I finished my project and love it. Made them a little bigger, 8x4 with a 3-inch flap. Skipped the rivets and went straight to hand stitching using different colored thread for the different wrenches. I did make 3 and the first was the one with all the mistakes on it but that's ok, using that one for spade bits. Again, thank you so much. I had a lot of fun and am already thinking of what to make next.

Well, I tried my hand at it with supplies from Weaver Leather, and I did it backward a few times, LOL. But it's right now. Perhaps I don't have enough power behind my bams, but the snaps are not snapping together, so I will try again. Oops, mine is thinner leather. (I checked out another one of your videos specifically talking about snaps.) I will order the 20s. All your videos are so helpful. Thank you again.

Idea for a project. Cut an 8 inch circle out of carving leather. Dampen, trace, cut, and tool nearly any design. I like to do Sheridan style flowers. Use sealer, antique, die or paint if desired and then glue to a suede back. Sand the edges, punch holes, and lace the edge. It makes a great "hot pad" . This can be as complicated or simple as one's skill level permits. It covers many of the basics of leather work. I try to watch all of the Weaver videos. I think you do a fantastic job. This is so handy… I make pouches for all my tools, punches, and so on… a front clear vinyl panel makes it a great way to organize and present them in a beautiful way. I like to use various construction, stitching, grommets, snaps, and so on … the first ones were terrible. But as I practice. I’m astonished the great results. Practice makes perfect. I wish!

Fantastic video. That was the best straight forward approach to a great gateway project. I know stitching can get complicated as a person advances but this was the best beginner level video I've seen yet and especially the no stress no nonsense approach to saddle stitching. Excellent job!

Great video as usual Chuck. I hardly ever change the blade in my razor knife, I strop the snot out of them (almost a mirror finish on the edge) when ever I put a new blade in and then strop quick for every job. The only time I change a blade is if I happen to ding the edge or break the tip.

Old LEATHER SMITH here, I have a suggestion Chuck, on the round anvil I glued a piece of scrap upholstery leather hair side down, so when I do double cap rivets I don't scratch or dent the cap on the anvil end, which I did before. GOD'S BLESSINGS BROTHER ✝️⚾🙃

How about one showing how to incorporate cattle brands into a project? Yes, sometimes you get brands on large pieces of leather, but sometimes they're cut out into smaller squares of hide. A great video. Chuck is very articulate and gets the point across clearly. One question is that when I click on the web site I am taken to a site that lists the items you can buy to make this pouch. On his video “leather 101” Chuck explained the difference between veg tanned and chrome tanned leather. It appears to me that the pouch in thi video is being made from veg tanned leather not the chrome tanned recommended one the linke web site. What is the right answer? Is the pouch on the video made with veg or chromed stunned leather? Thanks for the spectacular videos, please keep them coming.

Hi James, The pouch is made from the chrome tanned leather shown in the link.
