Absolutely THE most informative and clearest at explaining the larger functions of Word. Such a time-saver.

Thank you so much for posting this. I have been a Scrivener loyalist for ten years or more but have found myself as of late being frustrated with the software. It has become so complicated and with so many bells and whistles that I never use, I can’t get compiled documents to come out in the most basic format that I want. And with it being constantly updated, there is never any support or anyone that seems able to give a clear answer to what should be simple questions. Using the navigation pane in Word allows for basically the same functions in Scrivener that I was actually using. It also helps me better justify paying the subscription price for Microsoft so thank you again for sharing.

Hey Thank you for this- I wrote and published some bookazines years ago using this feature accidentally. But never saw this laid out from the start.

Great idea. I use navigation pane for chapters, but had never thought of doing that for sections/scenes!

Hi Nicola! I just wanted to say thank you SOOOO much for this video - I have about 20 pages of brainstorming (more like brain dump) as unorganized bullet points (eegads) . . . I was prepping to organize them into sections and it was going to be an incredibly daunting task. Enter Nicola and her brilliant video!!! This will save me soooo much time now and will help me for future brain dumps! I can't thank you enough for sharing these tips!!! You are my November Hero!!!

Oh, thank you so much for showing this! I've been trying it as well, while watching your video and you showed me more of what Microsoft Word can do. I had no idea you can use the heading styles and the navigation with it. I watched your video because I just wanted to see what you say about using Word because I do to for my own books. I am so glad that I found your video.

Smooches!

Awesome, thanks for sharing. I prefer to write in Word (in Spanish) because it has much better grammar/spell-check features than Scrivener, but I was missing the ability to plan/organize and drag and drop scenes. This is the perfect middle ground!

I'm rather new to writing and I'm trying to wrap my head around paragraph structure right now.. I'm trying to figure out wear one paragraph should end to begin a new one. Sometimes. I've had Chapters at last a couple pages which just makes the document a little difficult to look at.

Hi there. I am struggling with MS Word and not sure if it is because I am using the 360 Office version or because I am trying to use one of the MS templates. Do you recommend starting out with a blank format or using the template?

Is there any way to create an equivalent for folders like they have an Scrivener, where we can store notes, rejected text, character notes, etc. Thanks!

Hi, Thank you very much for this informative video ! I have been using word for ages but didn't know these tips. I have a question. I don't plan to name my chapters/sections in my novel. How to use navigation pane in that case ? Thanks in advance.
@nicolanovelist
@nicolanovelist 2 жыл бұрын
I'd probably split into sections with a very short description as your heading, which you can remove later. Or you could highlight the first sentence of each section as a heading and remove the formatting later

The completed novel book I have with me shows every beginning and every end of the paragraph of the first and last word all lined up perfectly well from top to bottom. Can I do that in word document the same way or after completing the novel in word document I need to take it to a place where they line up each paragraph perfectly well to get it published? Also, is it possible to interpreting a novel of language or languages, for example, "285 pages," in word document for foreigners to understand it?

Calling yourself "prize-winning" without naming the prize is cheezy. Anybody can make up a prize. I literally uncovered three yahoos who built their own "contest" website and gave each other "prizes." Either say it completely or leave it out.

I've won the Authors' Club Best First Novel Prize, A Betty Trask Award and the Waverton Good Read. Apologies that you think I'm cheeky but these are all genuine literary prizes in the UK if you look them up :)
