I do have to say THANK YOU 😃 You have been my viritual teacher. I have now set up my studio as a 7.1.4 DA :) I will make a video of my setup, and I will of course link your videos into mine 😃😃 Thanx again for very informative and easy-to-understanding videos. I know videos takes time to make 😃so it is a great thing you are doing for the Dolby A community 👏👏👏👏

@@michaelgwagner In fact, I wonder why Nuendo doesn't provide a reverb that supports atmos. It's almost there, to a complete solution of making Dolby Atmos.

Great video. Thanks! But what if I need many beds with different FX on them? What if I need, for instance, a bed for the reverb to route some objects, and then another bed with a delay to route other objects, but don´t necessarily want to put the two FX on the same bed? Can I make multiple beds for a more complex mix?
@michaelgwagner
@michaelgwagner 2 ай бұрын
Afaik the Dolby specs allow multiple beds but this is usually not implemented. What you can do is use so called object beds where you recreate a bed with the help of one object per speaker location.

@@michaelgwagner Great! Thanks for the response. I will certainly look into how to set up object-beds in Cubase... Or maybe you already did a video about that? I will search. Anyway, thanks for responding. :)

Hi Michael, thanks for your videos. Im a total newb. I dont have a spatial rig. What you have been saying makes sense but I'm trying to understand the reasons for some of the choices. Firstly, why not just render all of the objects to the bed along with the reverb? I'm assuming that the receiver will be able to scale the rendering appropriately for the speaker layout, so you will get higher positional resolution on the objects if you use objects. If I'm right about this, then won't the bed reverb have a lower spatial resolution than the objects? Is this noticable in practice? I'm assuming that Atmos doesn't just pan objects things around. I'm assuming that it filters objects differently depending upon their position and distance from the listener. If so, is this filtering using standardised algorithms for all Atmos receivers or do receiver try to differentiate themselves by having 'higher quality' algorithms? Also, would this filtering be built into the reverb and rendered into the bed?
@michaelgwagner
@michaelgwagner Жыл бұрын
One of the key aspects of Atmos is that objects are rendered at the endpoint device. This gives them a higher spatial resolution. And yes, that means that the teverb will have a lower spatial resolution but that should not be noticeable under normal circumstances. My understanding is that Atmos algorithms are standardized.

what about setting up a verb on an aux(fx) track that is routed to the MX bed and using a send to send audio to it?
@michaelgwagner

You need to link panners if you do that. This is a fairly old video. I think I have addressed that since.

Thanks for this, Michael. What about an instrument that shouldn't have any reverb applied such as a bass guitar that is not an object, and is sent only to the 7.1.2 Atmos bed? Wouldn't this method apply a 100% reverb to the instrument? Is it possible to have more than one Atmos bed?
@michaelgwagner
@michaelgwagner Жыл бұрын
You can only have one bed, but you can, of course have multiple 7.1.2 tracks that you can sum into the bed. Just have the reverb in one, the guitar in another and route them into the same bed.
@rejoiceinthetruth

@@michaelgwagner Of course! I should have thought of that. It's really the same as working with stereo FX tracks. If I understand it correctly, I can route the non-object dry signals to the bed track while also sending the signal to a 7.1.2 track that has the reverb as an insert, which is in turn routed to the bed track. Does this make sense?

Control room settings are persistent accross projects. If you constantly switch around studio settings like I do, the control room can be counterproductive.

Hey Man, I reviewed your video once again because I found something confused about the "correct" result of reverb plug-ins like these. And here is my question: First of all, by using the "Panner Link", I'm sure that the audio that are fed to the reverb plug-in is correct. Because I turned on the direct signal only and muted the late and early reverb parts. I could hear the audio moving to the expected position when I moved the panner. And I also muted the objects by clicking the OBJ button in the Atmos Renderer. I only wanted the BED to be heard. Then I muted the direct in the reverb plug-in and turn on late and early reverb. This time, I found the reverb sound going to almost all position, EVEN I positioned the source to the most left-front-bottom. I am expecting the reverb from right-rear-top would be quieter in this situation. And I also tried to move the source to the right-rear-top, and this time still can hear the reverb emitting from the left-front-bottom. I tried to make the room size parameter to max or min, but it just not changes anything. If all the operation is correct, this seems that the reverb of this type ignores the position of incoming signals. * I even inserted the SuperVision before and after the reverb to "See" the signal, and it matches what I heard. If I am not explaining to make you understand, I might make a video to describe again. I wonder whether the same things will occur on your reverb plug-ins, too. Because in this video, I just can't find the part that show exactly what I am trying. ins I 1. The built-in Reverb of DaVinci Resolve (support 7.1, but not 7.1.2, no tops, but the rear always have reverbs) 2. The built-in Reverb REVerence of Nuendo 12 (Expected in 5.1, but not supporting 7.1.2) 3. The built-in Reverb RoomWorks of Nuendo 12 (Expected in Quad, but not supporting 7.1.2) 4. The built-in Reverb RoomWorks SE of Nuendo 12 (Expected in Quad, but not supporting 7.1.2) 5. Acon Digital Verberate lmmersive 2.21 6. IEM FDNReverb 7. LiquidSonics.Cinematic.Rooms.Professional.v1.0.3. It keeps crashing my all DAWs and DaVinci, the only memory of using it is: Its rear and side is swapped. Thanks in advance.

Most reverbs just flood the room, so this behavior is somewhat expected. I did not yet have a chance to look deeper into what would be the best reverb that takes object position into consideration. This is a topic that is on my list.
@eviluessfansy9644
@eviluessfansy9644 Жыл бұрын
@@michaelgwagner Thanks in advance for your list. Because most people would think the reverb content should be louder if the source is near its speaker, at least I think like that. And I tested the Acon Digital Verberate lmmersive 2 once again. This time I listened to the early and late reverb separately. And I found the early reverb matches my thought. The large room I choose, the difference of loudness it makes! But the late reverb is still feeling like equal. And the built-in Reverb of DaVinci feel the same. The Early Reflection has the feeling of source position. Looking forwards to your result.

In Nuendo 12 it is possible to use more than ohne bed. What would be the benefit of this concept?
@michaelgwagner
@michaelgwagner Жыл бұрын
Yes, that is a rarely used possibility that not all DAWs allow and even Dolby is a bit unclear about it. It’s an option but does not really have convincing use cases. You can always just sum everything into one bed before it is sent to the renderer.

Hey Sir, Me again. I just found in Nuendo (13); the Linked Panner doesn't take effect if the panner is automated! If I drag the panner, it works as your video shows. This will make all the Atmos Project into a mess. How do you think about it?

@@michaelgwagner Thanks in advance. And I found a work-around: manually copy ALL the corresponding VST automations to SendFX n: XXX panners. And I get the correct sound. But this is a very boring and very easy to make mistakes. Because the "Linked Panners" do not even have a UI for inspecting.
