My first time in church showed me the beauty of Gods name. When we blaspheme we truly call on the Lord in vain. But praise God for the saving grace which is Jesus Christ forever amen!

I regret that I did not follow RC's ministry after he left Gordon College in the 1960s. I rediscovered him recently and am now blessed as I was when I was one of his students. Happy to be one again.

I'd like to express a personal conviction after listening to this sermon: My accountability doesn't diminish when I support influencers who misuse the name of God. Looking back, I find myself hastily liking posts without giving much thought to their disrespectful treatment of God's name. I've sought forgiveness from God and am actively working on repentance in this aspect.

Such a beautiful sermon ! From a new Christian, Thank you Lord Yeshua for your mercy and grace . Thank you Mr. Sproul for this sermon. ❤️ I am only understanding the blasphemy of His precious Holy name , I'm really shocked at how much I do it even now after I've learned this. I catch myself and am instantly asking for forgiveness yet within a few days it slips again. This is something I must pray on more and more untill I beat it. I do not believe we live in a democracy or shouldn't although here lately it dose feel like Mob rule and this is disastrous!

We live in a Constitutional Republic not a democracy, our founders despised democracy. US Constitution Article IV Section 4. The United States shall guarantee to every state in this union a republican form of government, and shall protect each of them against invasion; and on application of the legislature, or of the executive (when the legislature cannot be convened) against domestic violence. "A simple democracy is the devil's own government." -- Dr. Benjamin Rush (signed the Declaration of Independence, surgeon general of the Continental Army, professor of chemistry, medical theory, and clinical practice at the University of Pennsylvania, leader in getting Pennsylvania to ratify the Constitution) "I have alternately been called an Aristocrat and a Democrat. I am neither. I am a Christocrat." -- Dr. Benjamin Rush "Democracy has never been and never can be so desirable as aristocracy or monarchy, but while it lasts, is more bloody than either. Remember, democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts and murders itself. There never was a democracy that did not commit suicide." -- John Adams, Signer of the Declaration of Independence, member Continental Congress, first Vice President, second President of the United States of America, 1815 [D]emocracies have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention; have ever been found incompatible with personal security, or the rights of property; and have, in general, been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their deaths. -- James Madison [D]emocracy will soon degenerate into an anarchy; such an anarchy that every man will do what is right in his own eyes and no man's life or property or reputation or liberty will be secure, and every one of these will soon mould itself into a system of subordination of all the moral virtues and intellectual abilities, all the powers of wealth, beauty, wit, and science, to the wanton pleasures, the capricious will, and the execrable [abominable] cruelty of one or a very few. -- John Adams [T]he experience of all former ages had shown that of all human governments, democracy was the most unstable, fluctuating and short-lived. -- John Quincy Adams Elizabeth Willing Powel: "Well Doctor what have we got a republic or a monarchy? Benjamin Franklin: "A republic, if you can keep it" Elizabeth Willing Powel: “And why not keep it?” Benjamin Franklin: “Because the people, on tasting the dish, are always disposed to eat more of it than does them good.” -- American Historical Review by James McHenry "When you become entitled to exercise the right of voting for public officers, let it be impressed on your mind that God commands you to choose for rulers, "just men who will rule in the fear of God." The preservation of government depends on the faithful discharge of this duty; if the citizens neglect their duty and place unprincipled men in office, the government will soon be corrupted; laws will be made, not for the public good so much as for selfish or local purposes; corrupt or incompetent men will be appointed to execute the laws; the public revenues will be squandered on unworthy men; and the rights of the citizens will be violated or disregarded. If a republican government fails to secure public prosperity and happiness, it must be because the citizens neglect the divine commands, and elect bad men to make and administer the laws." -- Noah Webster, History of the United States (New Haven: Durrie & Peck, 1832), pp. 336-337, ¦49. "Providence has given to our people the choice of their rulers, and it is the duty, as well as the privilege and interest of our Christian nation, to select and prefer Christians for their rulers." --John Jay (first Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court) [The Correspondence and Public Papers of John Jay, 1890, Vol. IV, p. 365.] "Let each citizen remember at the moment he is offering his vote that he is not making a present or a compliment to please an individual - or at least that he ought not so to do; but that he is executing one of the most solemn trusts in human society for which he is accountable to God and his country." -- Samuel Adams [The Boston Gazette on April 16, 1781.]

Thank you, Stuart! I've taken the liberty to copy and paste your comment into a Word document, as Americans calling their government a democracy are so strongly brainwashed, they do not understand the dangers of this one misconception, and I too often end up discussing this with them. The information in your comment will make these discussions so much easier!
