I still remember to this day the day this episode came out, I was running across my house screaming calling all my friends who also watched the show to go watch the new episode lol... This episode changed everything, the "Rose is Pink Diamond" theory was something that people considered very early on like in season 2 but after that became the primal "joke theory" of the fandom because of how outlandish it was, how many plotholes it had etc and everybody used it to mock Steven Universe theorists, so when it actually came true everyone was losing their minds

Not really, nor is it hard to guess that she wasn't actually Shattered since we know the gems can poof. But until one of those things was confirmed, Rose being Pink Diamond was a crack theory simply because it took logical leaps to believe while not fully making sense with Rose's motivations.

In light of the revelation in this episode, I'd like to make a list of all foreshadowing/interesting tidbits to look back into with this revelation in mind (spoiler-free of course) - in Jungle Moon, when Steven and Connie got stranded, they were both having a shared dream about their respective moms, although Steven didn’t know it on his part - Pearl's space uniform in the season 1 episode where she tries to take Steven to space has a pink diamond symbol in it, much like homeworld gem's uniforms which indicate what diamond they belong to - Pearl had been alluded to belong to a Diamond by Peridot, who asked who she belonged to and commented she looked like “a fancy one” - Since she received an order from her Diamond to not speak of what happened (with Pink covering her mouth when giving it), every time she got close to talking about anything relating to it or hears about it, she unwillingly covered her own mouth violently, you can notice that in a bunch of other episodes (when eyeball Ruby tells Steven that Pink was shattered, when Pearl was trying to comfort Steven when Connie wasn't talking to him, when Steven turned himself in to Aquamarine, etc). Poor Pearl was physically bound from ever revealing their secret and the weight of it all was a lot to bear - Pearl seems much more justified in episodes like "Rose's Scabbard" when we look back at it now, when she said "You never had what we had" and etc. It's all much more understandable now. Not only were they lovers, but she was the only person in the world who truly knew everything about Rose/Pink and knew the truth about what happened - Pearl never shapeshifts because she's traumatized after doing it for the fake shattering of Pink Diamond, that’s why we never saw her shapeshift in the show - She knew about the moon base and the zoo, and the moon base was originally Pink's, to observe the colonization, since Earth was Pink’s colony. The diamonds always make bases on the moons of the planets that they're colonizing (like the one seen in Jungle Moon, when Steven and Connie got stranded on that moon of that planet colonized by Yellow, where they had that dream) - Steven/Rose were too strong to simply be a quartz, with healing tears, astral projection, plants, a bubble, etc and all of that not counting Rose's main weapon- her shield. So it makes much more sense for Steven/Rose to be a Diamond - The lyrics of the song "Love Like You" which are theorized to be from Rose's POV : "I always thought I might be bad, now I know that it's true, cause I think you're so good, and I'm nothing like you" - In "Mr Greg", during the "Both of You" song that Steven sings in the piano for Greg and Pearl, Greg is lighted in Yellow and Pearl in Blue, and Steven in Pink, giving double meaning both to Steven relationship with Pearl and Greg and Pink's relationship with Yellow and Blue, "You both love me and I love both of you” - In “Three Gems and a Baby”, the flashback episode to when Steven was a baby, when Greg opens Steven’s onesie where his gem is so it can “breathe”, the unbuttoned hole forms a diamond around his gem - The attorney gem during the trial was correct! Only a Diamond could've done this and pulled it off, and she was right! It was an inside job, just not in the way that we were expecting - Also during the trial, Blue said that Rose's sword was what shattered Pink, but that wouldn't make any sense because during Bismuth's first episode she revealed that the sword could only break the physical form of a gem but never shatter the gem itself, so that didn't make any sense, it could’ve only poofed a gem at best - The different Pearls inside Pearl represent the layers of her subconscious mind. Pearl told Steven to go inside her Pearl because it was the only way for him to know the truth, she physically wasn’t able to tell him as much as she wanted to, having to speak in “code” in this episode : “there are some things I *can’t* tell you, but what I *can* tell you is that I need my phone” - When Fluorite said “Don’t be silly- Rose Quartz isn’t real” she was technically right. (Our) Rose Quartz was never real. She was just Pink Diamond’s alter ego. - When Garnet tells the story of Rose Quartz in “Your Mother and Mine”, you might remember the artstyle was simplified and the characters were blacked out and obscured. This represents that none of those events actually happened. When Garnet recalls events that did happen (like in the episode “The Answer”) Ruby and Sapphire were drawn normally. - In “Say Uncle” (the Uncle Grandpa episode lol) Uncle Grandpa tells Steven to polish his gem in a time pattern that matches how often you should polish a diamond, while quartzes barely need to be polished at all. - In “Rose’s Scabbard”, Pearl recounts Rose saying “if we win, we can never go home”. However, Rose Quartz supposedly wasn’t made in Homeworld, but on Earth. She would’ve never even been to Homeworld before at all. In “We Need to Talk” (second flashback episode) Greg also asks “Do you ever miss your home planet?” to which she replies “No, never”. Again, not making sense since she would’ve been made and lived her whole life on Earth. This show is simply brilliant. This episode changed everything.

One thing i noticed on my recent rewatch is that in "Your Mother and Mine" all of the off colours tell their understanding of the story of rose quartz, to which Garnet says "you're all wrong" And in my opinion that's great forshadowing because they were *all* wrong Garnet included

This probably only happens in French, as Spanish and Portuguese have a better explanation: Rose(flower)=Rosa Pink(color)=Rosa "Rosa" may be the name of the color and the flower as well. In retrospective, it's kinda easy to tell that Rose was Pink Diamond just by looking at the massive amount of powers that Steven has. Most gems have like one or two powers at best. But Rose Quartz (and Steven) have a lot and they seem to be significantly stronger than other gems. It's also interesting to notice that this means that Pink Diamond (as Rose) was using her old identity as war propaganda for all the crystal gems fighting on Rose's side. Since they were supposedly fighting Pink Diamond.

Remember at The Trial when Blue Zircon asked the court "And where was her Pearl?" and the very disturbed reactions of Yellow and Blue Pearls? Yellow Diamond angrily retorted "They were there of course! They saw the whole thing!" Presumably the only Pearl there was ours, and logically she would have followed the plan and swore that Rose Quartz had somehow managed to evade the guards and attack PD. The next thing anybody knows this Pearl is at the side of the regicide Rose Quartz, the Gem who'd assassinated her liege and immediate superior ("...and her terrifying, renegade Pearl"). That must have made things very uncomfortable between Blue and Yellow Pearls and their respective Diamonds. Obviously Blue Zircon didn't know the major players in the rebellion, because she would have surely added our Pearl's subsequent action to her conspiracy theory.

I remember reading an SU fanfiction in 2015 where one chapter revealed that Rose and Pink are the same entity, as well as watching a theory video about that. My mind was just blown that this episode confirms that. The story that Garnet told was mostly false because the characters are depicted in silhouettes. If you may or may not have noticed, the character development of Rose is in reverse.

Time for my post-watching comment! I am SO glad this didn’t get spoiled, thank you to all my fellow commenters who kept their lips sealed about the big reveal! I’m also really glad that you didn’t guess the secret before it was shown, but were able to connect all the dots after the fact. I’ve been waiting and hoping for a reaction like this because that’s basically how I reacted, and tbh I watch reactions so I can relive that feeling for seeing the series for the first time. Now, Steven has TWO big pink issues instead of just the one! You thought having a rebellion leader as a mother was hard? Try having that same mother be an interplanetary matriarch! I’m very sad the show was ended early, I won’t give spoilers but though the end is alright, I feel it deserved a longer conclusion, maybe even a season six (not future). Also, yeah I agree, this video is probably gonna be one of if not the most watched one out of all your SU reactions. Easily the most anticipated and adored episodes of the show. Thanks for the content, and I’m really excited to see how you’ll react to how things play out from here!
