Steven couldn't say whether Pink Diamond was "gone", logically neither should Pink Steven. The only entity who could say that PD was gone was herself. As a matter of practicality, it doesn't matter whether Pink Diamond as an entity has been destroyed or still exists within her gemstone: she isn't going to reform back to either OG Pink Diamond or Rose Quartz. Perhaps it was a series of errors by the Crewniverse (like making Jungle Moon PD an utter idiot, or too-much relying on Steven's rhetorical wishes bringing forth Lion or opening Rose's Room), but there's enough logical leeway within canon to present alternate theories about ultimate fate of Pink Diamond.

Most storytelling endeavors, be they continuing movie series, television series, animated series, comic series, fanfiction, etc., start with a creator or creators who have some good ideas to start with, and can have amazing initial success from them, but the creative well runs low and/or old hands leave and others with very different ideas come in to change the format. Very, very few showrunners have an idea on how they want to end a series. At least Rebecca Sugar had mapped out an outline of how SU should progress through five or six seasons, and that served her well. The SU finale created some controversy (as one may see from the comments), but Steven had credibly resolved the massive problems confronting him at the end of season two. He'd achieved peace with Homeworld, healed the corrupted Gems, and averted the grave danger posed by The Cluster. The final two scenes really moved me.

The Slow Dance song in this episode drives me up the walls cause I crave a full version soooo badly 😭 And yeah Hudson is pretty frustrating in this episode, but I like the kinda complicated dynamic they point out with him here, where he isn't so bad that Marcy doesn't want him in her life, but he's still got a lot to work on Also note how in the flashback, he said that some guy with glasses told him to look after Marcy. In an earlier episode, we saw that when Simon left Marcy for good cause he worried about hurting her, he told her that he'd get someone to take care of her- so, the implication is that Simon at some point after leaving Marcy confronted Hudson and told him to actually look after his kid

That’s why White blushed Pink when she confronted her own flaws. She put the most pressure onto herself. Also White also talks about Blue and Yellows impurities. In gemology, Blue and Yellow diamonds colors comes from their chemical structure being impure. Cool little details Rebecca thought.

I always thought that Steven was able to reach White was because he was able to make her feel empathy after her being sealed away in her own giant head for centuries. Steven is incredibly empathic and I really think that he was using a Pink Diamond ability to PROJECT his empathy on to White, which is why she blushed pink. Kind of like Blue is bale to make others feel what she feels, Steven was able to make White feel what others feel for the first time in her existence

I really love the play with color and light with how white explained the other diamonds' characters and flaws. Blue absorbs the warm wavelengths of light, which explains how she clings to Yellow and Pink's warmth. Yellow absorbs cooler colors, which is why she's so easily influenced by Blue. Artists also know how hard Yellow is to work with because a tiny bit of blue or red, changes it so easily into green or orange, which shows the pressure that yellow have to endure and how she have to minimize her relationships just to serve her intended purpose. Pink absorbs wavelengths around green, which is also the color that represents envy, her greatest flaw before she stepped foot on earth and became influenced by its nature. And finally White, white light is basically all wavelengths of light, which explains her ego and her idea that she doesn't need anyone else. White doesn't absorb any other color, rather, it pushes everyone away.

I watched the OG "Steven Bombs," where they would only air a handful of episodes every like, half a year. I've got to say, even if the ending still feels rushed, I got a lot more mileage out of it after watching the series at a reasonable pace with you. I remember having no idea what to make of White Diamond or how she acted when I'd first watched the finale. But this time around, I caught the emotional context and actually understood the storyline. I can't wait for the sequel!

Comparing Adventure Time and Steven Universe, I definitely agree, SU is more consistently good. Not to say it's perfect. It has some duds and the finale, while good, was a bit rushed (obviously), but there's a ton to like. Adventure Time is fantastic and when it hits, it HITS, but I feel like it has a lot spottier quality overall. Obviously no spoilers, but I'm not sure which finale I prefer, Adventure Time or Steven Universe. Both have great moments

yayy 😭 been watching since the beginning but never really commented so im going to yap for a bit. ive always seen white diamond as a representation of the epitome of traditionalist views (as i’m pretty sure that that’s the intention) and how many people in power enforce them on society. the thesis of this episode, and therefore the conclusion of the series, being standing up to those traditionalist values has always meant so much to me. it’s a pretty simple message but then i remember that this show was cancelled because of those ACTUAL real-life harmful views and enforcement of outdated values. just with the knowledge that rebecca (the creator) wrote the ‘’change your mind’’ song (as well as “i could never be ready” from three gems and a baby) as a reaction to finding out that the show had been cancelled, i can never be mad at this show for having a ‘’rushed’’ ending. it’s so heartbreaking to me that the very thing this show was advocating for was still ultimately not enough to let it continue (aside from the movie and future) and it’s a shame they weren’t able to write the rest of the story as they had originally envisioned it. that being said, i still think that they conveyed this beautiful message of self-acceptance despite the limitations they were given. i can’t properly put into words how much it helped me (and many others!) as a young queer kid while still obviously being relatable to anyone else who has to deal with societal pressures that destroy individuality (so like everyone lol). ive seen other people saying this but i also really recommend the video “the most interesting scene in steven universe,’’ it’s what got me back into the show and by domino effect has me currently studying animation in college lol. sorry, i feel like ive ironically really talked about myself so i think this is where ill end it lmao 😭😭 although i appreciate anyone who read this whole thing, i hope i properly communicated my feelings. anyway, im looking forward to the rest of this reaction!!
