At the Chateau, focuses on the restoration and celebration of Château Avensac, a listed French castle, designed in the late 18th century, and built in the beginning of the 19th century, on the ruins of the original 14th century Château.
In 2015 we began an adventure to own a French Chateau. It has been a long journey, and in September of 2021 we became the guardians of this incredible property that we now call home. Sometimes it is hard to decide on which time period to bring out because there are 4 major time periods present. Compte de Pouy Design 1790's, 2nd Compte de Pouy 1870's, 3rd Compte de Pouy 1920's, and finally Compte de Lorgeril 1960's. Beautiful entry doors restoration! Take the opportunity to treat the beam for woodworm and consider frosting the transom window glass to conceal the beam & upper floor well. ❤️🙏

MN Girl, There are different types of sponsorship for rooms at the Chateau. A lovely local Lady and her husband are paying to renovate and decorate a room. 2 other bedrooms are being sponsored financially on Patreon, and another through a large donation. The sponsors do not get to live in the rooms, but each has its own different type of agreement to use the room in the future. Each of the rooms is also named after the sponsor. Leave the bath room windows open for ventilation, probably the reason for them and a little natural light, I would even want bigger windows with hopper windows , close or open.

It seems you've got some excellent trades people working for you. We live in Italy and are thinking about a move to France to undertake our own renovation project. Nothing as grand as your lovely Chateau. Do you have any recommendations on how to find good tradespeople? Thx M&R

Rowan In truth we got very lucky. We had our skirmishes with bad artisans, and those that treated us as money banks. I think that eventually they come to you from unexpected places. Ask others for recommendations and you have to trust your gut ! Thank you Mark

Anabela, because of the need to center the sink under the window we are left with the small space on the left. We want to maintain the look of the cabinet being a piece of furniture, and yet the countertop will go all the way to wall. A conundrum for sure. We are thinking of stepping back a few inches and creating a space for cutting boards and other tall thin items. Thank you Mark

Hi Coco, nothing rude in your question at all. What we have discovered, much to our surprise, is that labor in France is very expensive. We have independents working at 25 an hour, employees at almost 30 an hour, and the outside companies cost around 50 an hour. All of these are in Euros by the way. Yes, my brother and i just completed building custom home on the Oregon Coast and sold it. Many contractors were charging by the hr and its nerve racking.. It makes it quite hard to stay in budget🥵Your crew seems to be doing a beautiful job.. You both must be so excited with this project.. Colleen, With this type of tree you don't need to wire. They will do it on their own, we just have to keep the tops trimmed. It is amazing how close they have grown towards each other in just two seasons. Thank you ❤️ Mark

Hi Coco, we received long stay visas and became residents of France before we purchased the Chateau. We are here on a Passport Talents Visa. One of the categories is starting a new business in France and allows us to stay for four years. After four years the visa is renewable. Thank you ! Mark

Jeo, if you mean us personally, I have physical therapy 6 - 7 hours a day and then... I manage the projects and the work flow of the work of the house, do all technical drawings, shop for and procure all supplies, conceptualize and design all future work, keep on top of social media, edit and create KZbin videos, respond to all comments, trouble shoot all issues and problems, and find time to do client work as a graphic designer. Phillip works full time to support this massive endeavor, takes care of my needs, manages the physical happenings a the house, films everything that he can for the videos, and handles all of the financial end of the restoration and our personal lives, as well he takes on shopping and cooking on the weekends. We have a volunteer who handles lunch and dinner Monday through Friday. I hope this answers your question. Thank you Mark
