Assassin's Creed Mirage is an upcoming action-adventure game developed by Ubisoft Bordeaux and published by Ubisoft. The game will be the thirteenth major installment in the Assassin's Creed series and the successor to 2020's Assassin's Creed Valhalla. It is scheduled to release for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on October 5, 2023, and iOS on iPhone 15 Pro models in early 2024.
Mirage is principally set in 9th-century Baghdad during the anarchy at Samarra, and follows Basim Ibn Ishaq (a character first introduced in Valhalla) and his transition from street thief to fully-fledged member of the Assassin Brotherhood, who fight for peace and liberty, against the Templar Order, who desire peace through control. The game has been described as a return to the series' roots, with a bigger focus on linear storytelling and stealth gameplay than more recent installments, which primarily focused on role-playing elements.

I’m probably just a history nerd but one of the best parts of the rpg ac’s was the discovery mode. Loved that shit.
@lakingsgeek
@lakingsgeek 8 ай бұрын
Discovery mode is all I care about these days. I feel like AC games have always had a ton of potential but rarely rise above even a mediocre game. There are some decent entries in the series (AC2, BF, Origins) but even the best of them could get repetitive. The recreation of historical cities is amazing, the gameplay and secret society story lines not so much. Discovery mode gets rid of all the distractions and focuses exclusively on what is, in my opinion, the best part.

Honestly I hope to see more titles focus on a smaller map with increased density. Open world is cool and all but I feel like most of the time it results in 80% procedural generation, repeated outpost/cave/dungeon whatever design. And then like 20% underwhelming cities/towns. I would rather see a smaller map with more hand designed elements that makes the world feel more immersive and alive. I think that sometimes it's good to give the writers and designers a box to fill, rather than a blank canvas. Because often times a blank canvas results in a bunch of good ideas but most of them end up half finished and unpolished. Constraint breeds creativity.
@lakingsgeek
@lakingsgeek 8 ай бұрын
I think this is the right idea. I like the idea of a Hitman type game set in a historical city. There should be a number of high density areas and buildings where the main missions take place. They could still use an open world to make the place feel more alive and let you explore daily life in the ancient city.

@@ReikiMaulana Both Unity and Syndicate precisely suffer from those things too if you think about it for more than 5 seconds. Sure, smaller dense world... but what's the actual content like? It's the same generic icon-riddled map repetitive crap that Ubisoft are known for(like, how many useless collectibles were there in each game?). And the story and characters? Two great settings totally wasted with a very poor narrative all around. I still love Unity, and had my fair share of enjoyment with Syndicate, because at the end of the day those games still provide the power fantasy / mindless entertainment I look for in an action franchise like Assassin's Creed... But to put it in a weird way, there are more "M;eh" and wrongs than "Nice" and rights with those games.

"Not trying to please everyone." Been saying since Odyssey, please split the franchise. Have "Assassin's Creed" go back to the original style like Mirage is claiming to do. And create a new franchise called "Odyssey" that does the open world RPG stuff with only minor references to the assassins existing. Odyssey 2...Kassandra in Rome. She lives 2400 years, afterall. Let's follow her RPG adventures throughout history.

Frl. I think Origins and Odyssey are good games, but they are not AC games. They really just aren't. Narratively AND gameplay wise, they are almost completely separate from the rest of the series. I totally think everyone would be happy if it were split into two separate series. But that's also a big task for Ubisoft to undertake so that'll never happen

I wish companies were less afraid of making new IPs in general. A separate franchise where they can lean completely into fantasy elements, magic, open worlds, etc. sounds amazing to me. Mirage sounds promising as a potentially decent game where you get to do some stealthy stuff and get to enjoy the atmosphere of a city (Baghdad) that doesn't get the credit it deserves for being a center of culture and a unique place in history. I'm happy to see signs that studios are open to the idea of building games that are more tightly aimed at a specific experience instead of trying to be the one game that absolutely everyone should play. I'd truly love to have more options to buy games that take more of a Sekiro-approach in terms of being willing to limit player options in order to make the options that are there extremely good.

I really did try to love/play Valhalla. 30hrs in, my main area was only level 2, and I reached a point where I have to level it up, do side missions and also hunt down the order to even continue the main story. I asked my buddy how long it took him to get back into the MAIN story missions after doing all the extra crap and he told me 50hrs. I just don't have another 20hrs in me to put towards grinding. I loved how they handled origins and the way they did missions. You didn't have to absolutely grind side content just to be able to do main quest missions, now if you wanted to do end game raids/boss battles then yeah you had to do the side content to max Bayek out. If you're not a big end game kind of person though, Origins gave us a straightforward campaign that was actually a lot of fun. Granted the parkour was subpar but just how much of Egypt you could explore, and all the hidden Easter eggs and lore were definitely worth it.

I don’t think this will live up to people hopes in the way they’re expecting. I see a stripped down, reformulated version of Valhalla. I think the fact that this is just a beefed up DLC is Ubisoft once again not taking meaningful risks. I be you they caught wind of peoples frustrations with Valhalla and decided to spruce up an already in development DLC. If this underperforms, it probably wouldn’t cost them a whole lot in comparison anyways. Which could also leave AC Red in some sort of limbo until the numbers are in on Mirage. Just speculation, but I’ve been pretty underwhelmed with what’s been shown. I just see all the remnants of previous games rather than something new and exciting.

I've always thought sound should be much more important than vision, you would hear alot more things before you saw them, so the natural instinct is to be SILENT. They should implement an AOE for guards that is larger than their visibility that you can see when you use eagle vision. They would be able to hear "loud abilitys/ Objects " and they would react with suspicion and haste.

I don’t really care much about the branching decisions on how to eliminate a target. If my objective is to kill x templar, even if I do it differently than another player the result is that I killed x templar. So usually this only matters when a game wants to have multiple choices to give you multiple endings, but in this case Basim is alive and we know what happened on Valhalla, so I would ditch the multiple endings and choices when the story is already going that direction.

I think Luke is pointing out that if there is only one way to kill x Ancient who is always locked behind a single cutscene, this hurts the replayability of smaller games like these which is one of their biggest selling points. It's just another testament that Ubisoft isn't too concerned about the success of Mirage. It hurts to say it but it's true. AC Red is where all the money is being thrown.

Yeah, the reason that “nothing really feels like an action-adventure RPG” is because developers have created what I would call the “Melting Pot” genre of video games. It’s where to take a bunch of individual, scattered pieces of all different types of games, and you just mash them together to create a blobby mass of stuff that you then stick into an open world setting. It doesn’t work because they don’t fully commit to any one thing. They’re trying to create the mythical game-for-everybody formula by shoving all of the mechanics and ideas into one package, much like if you were to try and cook a meal that would appeal to everyone by throwing every single spice and seasoning in your rack into the same pan of meat.
@alwaysdisputin9930
@alwaysdisputin9930 8 ай бұрын
It doesn't work for you maybe. AC Odyssey tried to be a jack-of-many-trades & I loved it. Admittedly, the parkour was rather lame but it made up for in other ways. Similarly Starfield, space combat, open world, FPS, base & ship builder. Yes it's a blobby mass of stuff. Sure, they talk to the fucking wall a lot of the time. But it's a good game. Or at least so I'm told.

This is why I feel like Mgs have the best stealth system. The reason I say this is because the A.I are actually smart. If they see a little bit of you they send people to search the room you are in and even if you are hidden they search around the room and look in lockers and door’s just to find you. There is so many ways to deal with them from placing a playboy magazine on the brown for them to read and get distracted or just pointing a gun to their head so they will surrender. I don’t like stealth games because I’m a very impatient person especially the stealth games we get now. But Mgs is one of the only ones I play and I actually like because how smart the Ai are and how they actually feel like real people.

Hard disagree on the historical accuracy stuff you were saying about recent AC releases. By far the most consistent aspect of every AC game is the very clear very obvious dedication to historical accuracy. It’s the series’s entire identity, and they’ve stuck hard to it all this time. I get it if people don’t like Valhalla for one reason or another, I don’t like it either, but pretending the problems with Valhalla stem from the one aspect of Valhalla that is objectively cool and easy to appreciate - participating in the countless and infamous Viking raids on England, which is indeed historically accurate - is very weak.

Also, I'm afraid you have rose tinted glasses where the early AC games are concerned. 'Freedom of approach' in those was very theoretical, with the key targets always having a very particular way that you had to go about taking them down ... which you got penalized for not using, or outright barred for not pursuing depending on the game. It was really annoying and handholdy.

I absolutely love the new AC. Valhalla. Origins. Odyssey. It’s really the only games I play. Did try Elden’s Ring last year omg. So hard but excellent stroke recovery sensory input modulation gained. I know first players missed this style of AC. It’s funny that I struggled so much in AC3 to teach my brain to play. I honestly think that auction mission is actually more of a tutorial to introduce players to the idea of finding your own way to assassinate your targets in future missions. Sure it wasn't done as well as the Notre Dam mission in Unity, but it seems limited in a sense that a tutorial would. I'm guessing that mission structure and options will be much better later in the game but that's just what I think.

Yeah, he's comparing one of the more iconic quests in the entire series to what is essentially a tutorial for play-testers. Maybe Mirage is going to have bad quest designs. Or maybe it was just ONE small quest to get the play testers used to the gameplay, especially considering how long its been since AC had this sort of gameplay and they don't want their play testers (who had limited time to play) to get lost in a huge quest. We'll have to wait and see ig
