As a non-native of English, and through many contexts in which I encountered the expression "for the umpteenth time" , I think it carries some negative connotation, like in the example "I'm asking you for the umpteenth time not to do that again.", and it has no specific number but it means too many to cause anger, boredom, frustration, etc. Perhaps it may not always carry a negative connotation, but I guess it usually does
