I have a few couples that live on my porches. You can almost set your watch by them. Every evening, they arrive to turn in for the night. My cats love watching them. You can hear them clearly even with doors and windows closed. They’ve made nests in plants, shoe boxes, porch curtains, etc. I have several bird houses hanging from the porches out of direct weather, but they nest where they want. Food is supplied all year round for all the birds here. And I look forward to hummingbirds returning. I’m starting to think word has gotten around that my place is a sanctuary for wildlife, lol. I love it!

Such a wonderful video! This was the bird that “chewed me out”, when I was trying to right a (seemingly) decorative birdhouse in my garden. It had fallen over, and when I tried to prop it up, the babies inside (??) started to chirp. Then the mother sat on a branch, just a few inches from my head and chewed me out! I felt so bad.

We have a husband and wife pair that have been at our house for a few years. They have been in our house more times than we can remember. We keep our doors open on nice days and they will come in as they please. We call them our landlords, because it feels like they want us to move out, so they can move in. Once they even started bringing in pine straw and started to make a nest in a bowl I had on top of our fridge. They’re very bossy but they are also our favorites.

If you live in the Eastern U.S. or in the Deep South, you’ll most likely spot one, or hear them sing. Start with attracting them with foods that Carolina Wrens like, like mealworms, peanuts, suet, or sunflower seeds. Or, take binoculars and something to visually record and find a park or wildlife reserve in the Carolina Wren’s range if Carolina Wrens are not in your area, and go from there. Hope you get a chance to see one and happy birding! 🐦

It took me a long time to hear him, find him, AND have my camera with me but finally got a great pic of him! Sitting on a branch, high up in a tree that was several hundred yards away. Several years ago, we had flower pots with marigolds placed on our deck rail. A Carolina wren pair made their nest in one of the pots and successfully hatched their brood. At first after the eggs hatched, the parents would not bring food to the babies if I was out on the deck. However, after a few days, the internal signal to feed their young overrode their fear of me. They would go back and forth into the marigolds even when I was standing just a few feet away. It was a fascinating procedure to watch and they successfully fledged three young.

They are one of my favorite birds. I have a bamboo windchime on my porch with a bird house and in the winter it stays in the house to get out of the cold. Every morning I am greeted with the prettiest song singing. Your channel is wonderful.

This is one of my favorite backyard birds - delightful to watch. The ones in my area aren’t shy at all…in fact, a pair made a nest in the overhang of my roof a couple of feet next to the sliding glass door on my balcony (which I open and use every day). They are mealworm addicts. 🙃

It's incredible to me all the odd places they will nest. Fun and fascinating little birds :)

My Carolina Wrens in Tennessee are adorable and never far from our carport where generations have nested for 30 years. Sometimes they nest on a shelf in a box, on a hanging ladder, or inside a plastic Halloween pumpkin. The male sings LOUDLY in the front yard then flies to the backyard and sings again. So cheerful! They clean every spider egg off my window screens, and one ate a small ringneck snake my son left outside in a jar one day, LOL. Love them so much!

I love Carolina wrens, they are one of my favorite birds. I have had several nest in various places all around my yard. They are so adorable with their little playful antics and chubby little bodies. Last year a pair nested under my patio table, the little male was quite vocal defending his little family and letting the female know when it was safe to bring food. I watched them quite a bit and almost missed the fledging, but got lucky and got to see the last little one leave the nest. The whole family stayed together for a long time after they fledged, they lived in some bushes on the side if the deck and explored the deck and my garden daily. Just the other day, I heard a familiar song and opened my door slightly to see a little male singing his heart out on my deck chair😍i was actually concerned they might start nesting because its been so warm here in NC, but he was probably just singing and enjoying the sunshine❤❤❤❤❤

I was lucky enough to hear and see one in Caissie Cape, New Brunswick last year, they aren't very common in the area I live in, and i was there on vacation. The call really startled me as the bird was hidden nearby in an old thicket, very loud three part call.

I love these little buggers! We live in middle Tennessee and you have described these guys perfectly. They're not shy. If I leave the shed door open and unattended for more than a couple minutes, at least one of them will be inside and exploring before I get back. They are just adorable!

By far, my most favorite bird! I had a nesting pair several years ago. I miss them! They have not come back to nest and I even bought them a specific wren bird house! Hopefully, they will be back again. Just love their song and huge attitude… The best part about them is their adorable bodies Great video! Thanks for sharing

This was interesting. I have a beautiful one that has nested on my back porch for the last 3 years. I leave a old clay planter pot out for them. They have used few times and a large pot of flowers last year. Had to water those plants from the bottom. I really enjoy watching those birds. My mom and I have been feeding the birds for almost 20 years now. Thank you ,keep up the good work .God bless you and yours.

Lovely! I had a relationship with a pair where I last lived, missing them! I find it really amazing how much Carolina wrens and Eastern chipmunks have co-evolved camouflage. You cannot tell those two animals apart without direct inspection. From the coloring, the tail width and posture, and how they move through underbrush. Co-evolution really blows my mind 😁 Anyway, thanks 🙋🏻♀️

Now that you mention it, the similar look of the Carolina Wrens and Chipmunks do resemble the convergent evolution seen in other species, like Hummingbirds and Hummingbird Hawk Moths. Everything from their appearance and even their behavior between Carolina Wrens and Chipmunks are almost strikingly identical.

One of my favorite birds here in Maryland. I had a pair nest in my garage last season and oh boy did the fledglings have trouble getting out bc of the cobweb’s and messiness of it. I had to help 3 of them get out. I was just glad I was there and nothing horrible happened. I cleaned it up nicely for this year so it doesn’t happen again. Hopefully they will be back. I see them often all year round in my yard and at the feeders so I feel blessed by that.

same experience. i live in howard county and the wrens find their way into my garage. unfortunately, they seem to be attracted to the sticky traps i use for mice. 2 got stuck and died. now i have to be very careful where i place them. one of my favorite birds.

Lesley, this is such a wonderful video. I wish you could see the wrens for yourself. They are one of my absolute favorite species, with their perkiness, prettiness, and loud voices! Until a few days ago I was putting out live mealworms for them constantly. But I’ve had to stop for two reasons: I was spending $300 a week on the worms, which my financial advisor said was cutting into my ability to not outlive my money, and I have a terribly painful left shoulder and arm, due to pressure on a nerve from frozen tense shoulder muscles. I cannot drive or work with feeders until that gets solved! But spring is about here, the yellow-rumped warblers have just migrated north, and the birds are eating the nesting mix cylinders (with dried mealworms) in my two caged feeders. I’m going to subscribe to the Birds Walking Down page now!

Oh my gosh, wow I never realized how expensive mealworms could get. Speedy recovery to you with the arm and shoulder. 😞 thanks a lot for checking the video and for subscribing to birds walking down. Appreciate it a bunch. You're right about what you said of the Carolina wren. Such lively birds. I love them 🐦🥰

Greetings from San Diego, California! I live up in the mountains and have the pleasure of seeing many different species of birds and other wildlife up close. Today I had the pleasure I've seeing two different little birds outside my bedroom window. One, was a California Towhee, and three were cute White Crowned Sparrows with their little orange beeks! I throw seed out for the birds everyday. No kitty cats here to bother the birds! So much fun! Thank you for you videos. Happy birding!!
