This season I had one pair build a nest in my cloths pin bag hanging out by my cloths line. They are wonderful parents. I will build a few nest boxes and encourage their presence.

It's important to note that Carolina Wrens prefer their nests 3-10 feet above the ground. Heights outside of this range can have substantially lower occupation rates.

A piece of wood buried in the ground to hold up the electrical conduit? That would last maybe 12 months here in Texas. Termites, moisture and rot would wreak havoc on this method. A 4x4 cedar or pressure-treated pine post set in concrete would give many years of service instead.

The entrance design would be great if there were no invasive species (English sparrows) within the vicinity. Those sparrows are true tormentors!

One of the Carolina wrens in my yard is my buddy. I named it "Birdy". He/she is VERY friendly and likes hanging around when I'm gardening so I started feeding it live mealworms. Well..he ended up building a nest in my garage one day when I had the door up completely so now I HAVE to leave the garage door up about 10" so he can get in and out in the morning.If I build him a house will he go in it? I'm worried since I leave the door up a neighborhood cat COULD get in the garage and be able to reach him since his nest is on a shelf only about that 5' off the ground. I think a cat could jump 5 feet?? Anyways..what should I do?

I hot glue my birdhouses together first and then go back and add screws. It seems to be easiest.

In my yard I don't have many nest predators that visit, so I don't worry about it too much. But yes, I would put one on if more snakes and raccoons were visiting.

The slot itself is big enough to remove the old nests for me, but you are free to change the design however you like to fit your needs.
