The purpose of an artist is to express that which is common to the human experience, yet is difficult to articulate. Your ability to pull something from the darkness and articulate it so well makes others feel less alone, coping with their own darkness. Well done.

When I first heard this song, it really got to me. It reminded me of all the crap I have been through in my life, and it would make me cry. But today I was listening to it and I realized that this song is about change. Maybe I'm wrong but to me when he says "Now that I know what it means to be dead I can start living again" I felt like maybe it was possible for me to be able to let go of all my pain and live.
@ronni.b993 жыл бұрын
Hey I never commented on this! Back in 2017 I was going through it. I got my heart broken, and was back stabbed by about 10 of my friends, who spread constant rumors about me through the school. It was also the year that I started developing an eating disorder (been in recovery since 2019!!!). I also started doing a lot of drugs, and drinking to numb the pain. This whole song is such a huge part of my recovery. It gave me hope, even in the depths of my self-hatred, that things would get better. And they did. I got the lyrics "Now that I know what it means to be dead, I can start living again" tattooed on my left wrist. It's a constant reminder for me that I managed to get through one of the hardest parts of my life. and I am beyond thankful for this song and all the others that you've written. Thank you

I saw the most beautiful sunset today. It was probably the prettiest thing I’ve seen in my entire life. It moved me to tears. As I sat crying at a mixture of pink clouds and scattered showers and vibrant, saturated rainbow, I remembered why I wanted to live in the first place. My life has been so dark for so long, so when he talks about having to know death before you can feel alive, I understand it so perfectly. For the first time in nearly a decade, I feel lucky to be alive.

I'll sit and pretend I know someone at an intimate depth It only makes me feel like shit in the end Because you're only as good as the people you consider your friends So watch an aching past surface, and now I'm half certain That everyone who associates with me's a bad person Because everyone who associates with me is as worthless Now I finally understand what it means to lack courage And at the end of the day it just defeats the damn purpose To share the fruit of your knowledge while completely malnourished So I've been trying to let go of the things that torture me inside Congratulations, you're cordially invited To a small list of things that I normally would hide Like high school, no comprehension of enough harm Codeine for numb hearts and patching up cut arms But drinking cough syrup when you didn't have a cough Is ironic, because in reality you're sicker than you thought But like hearing new music and being too scared to turn it up Virgin blood mostly told me to stop at the surface cuts And sometimes I wouldn't eat more than a couple bites And sometimes I'd go a week and not sleep more than a couple nights And sometimes I'd get so wrapped up in the "couple life" When the "couple life" failed me the first couple times But I am grateful that it seems stupid, and I'm grateful that I miss you Because the passed two years are something I'm glad I had to sit through Because now that I know what it means to be dead I can start living again Now that I know what it means to be dead I can start living I can smell it when I breathe I can feel it when you leave I can start living again So I'm leaving behind the people who said I wasn't brave enough Wrote an album called "sleep" and realized it's about waking up
