I have the Bushido 2, i also have Raptor 2 mid and Raptor 2 and Mutant 2 . Once i discovered this brand i don't buy anything else. My favorite shoes ! Keep making high quality shoes La Sprotiva, never change!

Just purchased a pair. Really good review. Detailed and insightful. Very well delivered. I'm several pairs (and hundreds of trail miles) of LA Sportivas in and don't buy anything else. Solid, reliable and well contructed trail running shoes brand. Thanks dude.

I heard from a La sportiva athlete I know that they basically designed it for western states…meaning to say that it’s really geared for lighter runners relatively low volume feet, probably based in the inter mountain west.

Thanks for the review! I own 5 different models of trail runners from the La Sportiva line up: Mutant, Akasha, Cyklon Cross GTX, Levante, Prodigio. I find the Prodigio to have a wider toe box compared to all these other models. The models I own ranked in order from widest to least wide: Prodigio, Levante, Akasha, Mutant, Cyklon Cross GTX (I had to go up half a side as a result). Happy Running!!

They look very similar to the VJ Sportmaxx 2, which i struggled to get on with especially after a rock went straight through a weak point on the sole.

I’m about 45 miles deep in mine. It’s the widest toe box out of many of the LP’s I’ve tried. (Mutant, akasha). I’ve put the grip through all kinds of nasty conditions and it’s done well. I think where it might have a rough time is straight up mud. The only initial issue I had was below the ankle collar, was super stiff to begin with. If the laces end up being to short due to high instep like me, I used my extra Kjerag white laces 👌. I went with my usual LP size, 44 EU. And like you Ethan, I can wear toe socks with them, which is awesome.

I have mildly wide feet but love these shoes. A few minor tweaks and they'd be a 10/10. I find they loosen up as they warm up and I don't feel constricted running in them. Tounge could be a tiny bit wider and more supportive and it seems odd they didn't run right to the top eyelets the tiny bit of cushion around the opening for those people running on lots of very uneven ground. I'm definitely thinking about getting an extra pair or might wait to see the tweaks on the next version!? 😊

I had to return it, I loved it but it was too narrow (top to bottom, not side to side) in the front and the lacingholes in the front dug into my foot even when I laced it loose. Too bad cause I fell in love with everything else about the shoe.

This looks like a shoe for me. Historically, I've found La Sportiva sizing to be a bit wonky (runs small; weird US/EU conversaion). Does it fit true to size? Should I go with my usual Euro size to be safe?

@benarlett47678 ай бұрын
A great shoe - all the best bits of a speedgoat with a much more accomodating toebox and less mushy midsole. FWIW I find them to be notably wider than other Salomon or LaSpo shoes: I'm a 'perfect' fit in Salomon Sense series or the LaSpo Akasha / Bushido but the Prodigios are a little wide on my feet - noticably wider than any of those. I also find rubber to be excellent in the wet hre in the UK!
@6MTGirl7 ай бұрын
Thanks for the feedback! Do they feel sloppy/imprecise due to being wider? And how is the comfort and rock plate compared to the Akasha if you've had a chance to test them over long distances? For reference, I love the fit of the Bushido for shorter distances but prefer the Akashas for long days and rocky trails/off trail travel as the Bushido is just not enough rock plate for me. Curious of the Prodigio could replace the Akasha for me.
@benarlett47677 ай бұрын
@@6MTGirl I would not call them sloppy or imprecise in the spirit of them being a longer distance shoe, but if I were running shorter mountain races then I'd pick something a little more fitted - they are certainly not a Bushido. If you took the Akasha as a baseline then they are similar in terms of their level of precision but a bit wider up front, and a more cushioned sole. In terms of fit, the closest shoe for me is the Nike Terra Kiger 4, but the upper on the Prodigio has more structure / protection. For long days on rocky terrain, I'm probably not best qualified as I typically run in softer conditions, but I would say that they would be perfect for that. I found the Akasha sole to be stiff to the point where it a little prone to being unstable on uneven rocky ground, and the somewhat softer sole on the Prodigio feels much better in that regard and more runnable too. The Prodigios may have a little less rock protection than the Akasha, but I would say that they have more than the Speedgoat. Overall, for me it's a pleasant mix of the best bits of the Salomon Slab Ultra 3, a Nike Terra Kiger and a Hoka Speedgoat 5. To date I've used it for long training sessions, but I plan to use it for 50 mile races or longer in mountain terrain. It is certainly plenty of shoe for me to do long rocky ultras, with the caution that I'm fairly light @66kg and I don't typically like huge shoes - I'm quite happy in the Kjerag up to 50 miles for example.
@6MTGirl7 ай бұрын
@@benarlett4767 thank you for the detailed reply! I ended up ordering the Prodigio and you're absolutely right about the cushioning! I also appreciate that it feels very secure in the heel and midfoot with a runner's knot. I have all kinds of room around the ball of my foot and toebox, and it does seem to cut into my ankles just testing it indoors (the most common complaint about the Prodigio). So I don't think it will work for me unfortunately. I'm not so much of runner as I am a distance hiker who normally covers 30K-50K per day and enjoys running on flats and downhills occasionally. I've done plenty of backpacking in my Bushidos, but they kill my feet after a couple of long days on rocky terrain, especially carrying full kit. The Akashas have been much better on the rocky trails I hike, but they do have the shortcomings you described. Plus the Akashas run slightly shorter on my feet than the Bushidos, but they are too big elsewhere if I size up 1/2 size and even a runner's knot doesn't keep my heels in place. Narrow feet problems. :) What I need is a Bushido with a thicker sole - I may try the Jackal II BOA or the S/Labs next!
@benarlett47677 ай бұрын
@@6MTGirl I did 'feel' that the collar came up a bit high around the ankle, but in practice, so far, it has not caused me any issues in runs up to 40km. Also, I have now swapped the insole out for an Inov8 'Boomerang' insole which is a touch thicker and this has just lifted my ankle clear of the collar and overall made the fit of the shoe a bit more precise (I find the Inov8 insoles to be excellent). If you have the option to test with a thicker insole (or an additional thin one) it might be worth a try. In terms of other things to try, the Salomon SLab Ultra and Jackal II are certainly in the same spirit of being a longer distance midsole without the marshmallow wallowyness of really thick shoes. I've not run in the Jackals as I can't quite justify them alongside the Prodigio, but I had the Slabs which I think are a great shoe. Note that the Slabs have a high ankle collar too - almost like a mini gaiter which I found took a couple of runs to break in, but I know people who really disliked this feature.
@6MTGirl7 ай бұрын
@@benarlett4767 thank you for the feedback! Great idea to try thicker insoles with the Prodigio to help lift my heels and fill out the toebox. I've been using Superfeet Thins to cup my heels better and prevent medial blisters, but they're about the same thickness as the Sportiva inserts. I'll try something beefier and if not, I'll give the Jackal II BOA a shot - the upper fits more snug on the BOA version, which appealed to me in my neverending quest for a narrow trail runner. 😅 The S/Lab Ultra 3 is only available in limited sizes and I wonder if they're being replaced soon or just out of stock after all the Memorial Day sales. I appreciate your tips and sharing your experiences! 🙏

hi there! between the Prodigio and the Timp 5, which one is more comfortable for long runs? I have the Altra Timp 5 brand new, but I'm considering returning them because the upper seems stiffer than I expected. Even though I prefer Altra's "footshape," it is said that the Prodigio is wider in the metatarsals than it seems. I would go half a size up to be sure.

It’s a really good shoe, especially for La Sportiva. Great grip, good foothold with a reasonable toe box. But ultimately, it felt a little thin for my weight so it won’t be the one for me after 35 miles.
